Tubby lives in Australia, and the Australians may be far ahead of us in my preferred way of web citing, transclusion. If you can get the book written by two Australian Doctors, http://dret.net/transcluding/ and read the last chapters, you will understand why.

I can't quite "picture" how this would appear to a reader. Do you have a couple of sites that we could look at it working? Sample Javascript code that we could use on our sites to test using transclusion to incorporate external webpages would be a bonus!

The technologies described in the book in my last post are not yet implemented in any browser I know of. The authors describes how you can prepare.

The closest I come with existing simple technologies without using any scripting is examplified here:

As you see the Norwegian word "skyld" has many different faces and a Norwegian company will silently pay a compansation before issuing a statement of excuse us. If the company issues such a statement, it is the same as admitting responsibility or guilt. A good Swedish company may give you compensation even if it is your fault. That is another story.

If the green text gets a standard throughout the web, it will immediately be clear to the reader that it is a cite from another web page.

    I also wrote this

short article to make it clear how it can be done in a web document. The idea is an idented text and a standard colour of that text to make it stand out from other idented (blockquoted) text in the document in question.

Forum software like vBulletin's editor can of course do it even better by programming a transclusion button, where the text in the external source is marked, coloured in the right colour and the link embedded. If it is done correctly, you will be redirected to the exact quoted section in the external document by clicking the coloured transcluded text.

it doesn't meet even the loosest interpretation of plagiarism
A link whose Anchor Text does not name the source does not constitute a clear and obvious attribution. Furthermore, there is nothing that visually distinguishes a link from other text. That I noticed this particular pattern of copying owes to the fact that I had just earlier read an original article and here noticed the word-for-word in full copy.

That one does not explicitly state "these words are mine, and mine alone" is immaterial. Absent attribution to another, the presumption is that the material is that of the poster.

Furthermore, the matter of Copyright infringement has yet to be considered.

No I am not saying that! . . I have always maintained that each moderator should moderate according to their own values, and expect support from other moderators.

I was saying in my own way - Sometimes forum personalities can deter new posts. Some members may delete their own post before they have written it because of the imagined response the post might get. The attitude of members previous posts in threads can determine the content of the next post. Members attitudes 'can' act as a silent moderator.

My preference is to see the post; Get the point of view . . Not have the view browbeaten away before the finger touches the keys.

I merely wanted to say it with a lighter heart.

IF . . IF I were targeting a particular member it would probably be deepsand. . but the truth of the matter is, I have no inclination nor temptation to try and alter any members personality. .

    Totally disagree.

By now you should have a battery of Scandinavian sayings at your disposal and here is a new one.

"Don't teach an old dog how to bark".

Kgun. I do not know what your disagreement might be, I am equally not quite sure how you can disagree.

This merely speculates a possible more likely target than mjtaylor.

This basically says, I prefer 'painting my own portrait, not smudging the next guys.' ( Nice new saying for you Kgun still bakery fresh)

I prefer to make up my own sayings Kgun . . One I use occasionally is "More ways to kill a cat" . I like that one . . It has an edge to it.

It looks neat and useful. The problem I foresee is that the big commercial players would get warned by their lawyers that supporting this standard would lay them open to lawsuits for assisting copyright infringement. There is no simple solution to this that I can see.
