Question Have You Searched How To Delete Your Facebook Account?

Well I had to post this information as to me it's quite interesting. Apparently the wikihow website's traffic spiked after they posted information on how to delete your facebook account.

Personally I think it's a sad state of affairs when someone decides to delete their Facebook account but if one has privacy issues Facebook's current install (it's funny because Facebook is indeed only an install (or is it>)) then I suppose I understand. Sometimes I feel if you have nothing to hide then...and if you do...then hide it.

The main point of the information is that it's really easy to deactivate your Facebook account but finding the delete button is much harder. I'll vouch for this as a few days ago I was checking out the account options to see what has changed since Facebook agreed to address Canada's Privacy Commissioner's concerns.

I'm not sure if Facebook has become more secure and private since their run-in with Canada's Privacy Commissioner but everything seems to be fine on my end.

With more respect to privacy, I actually do not run applications of any kind except for last week and in serious regret. Once I ran the application it got posted from me to all my friend's walls. Spam.

Have you deleted your Facebook account? Are you still concerned with the privacy issues? Again I'm of the class that believes if you want to keep something private simple keep it private and if you want to make anything public - join Facebook...It's fun especially if you have family members as your friends too.

It is not so much the information you give away about yourself, but what your friends stupidly give away for you!

There is a dark side, wishing you a happy holiday for example can be a "heads up" to the local criminals if there are clues in earlier threads as to where you live.

Building a profile on a target is easy done.

Oh how right you are. Even allowing your children to have Facebook accounts is, in my opinion quite risky. What are the odds of Your child being targeted? I'm not sure on the numbers but one target is one too many for some parents. I haven't heard of any cases yet, related to Facebook and children being kidnapped or houses being broken into. I have heard of such problems on sites like craigslist.org though. I wouldn't rule the possibility out though, ever as it's clear you can easily build a profile on someone and do something terrible to them - so true.

Regarding what friends post about you. Now in Facebook you can remove whatever your friends posted on your wall or tagged you in as well. I'm not sure how long this feature has been around but I appreciate it. I've had a few friend post pictures with me tagged in them and I've been able to remove the tags, thankfully.

You also have the option of deleting friends who are giving you a bad name so there's another workaround to the privacy problem.

You're right: you can have ten friends wish you a happy holiday and the eleventh one may be the crook that waits until your gone to pay your house a little visit.

FB Privacy - A Real Concern

I completely agree with Astro. I am an user of FB. Some of the apps, are very smart in getting the details of your friends. Just an example, i came across a birthday app, which at a first glance might look very harmless. But in terms & conditions, they would have mentioned, by this you agree to share the "Details of your Friends"....Which is the tricky part...Knowingly or Unknowingly my friends or i end up sharing "OUR" details. In fact, i have been speaking about this to lot of my "Techie" friends too...but at least at this point of time, there isn't much of a concern in India....
As on Online Media Strategist....Yes, FB is making my task easier to understand about all others...it is able to provide wonderful demographics....infact i even see FB as a potential threat to Google in terms of Optimization...but all of this at what cost?
what if a White Collar Criminal wants to make use of this?
I am not being pessimistic, just a genuine concern....
    as always,
    with warm regards,

I don't suppose there would be! The loss of sensitive data and data security in India is only beaten by the British Government and security service...sensitive material left on trains/buses, dumped in the road, found on a roundabout (? never understood that breach) hard drives sold on the second hand market.....the list goes on.

So many upload information everyday to the likes of Face book, little knowing or understanding why this service is provided free in the first place.

Free? Nothing is free on the Internet, it is just sometimes the cost is hidden from the unwary and ignorant. (sounds of heavy breathing) Information is power to the dark side of the Internet Luke Skywalker!

Facebook Protest for those who disagree with the changes Facebook privacy policies

On June 6th we are asking those who disagree with the changes Facebook has made to its “privacy” policies to commit to not logging in or interacting with Facebook in any way. Be sure to log out of Facebook in all of your browsers no later than the evening of June 5th. On the 6th, be sure to not use Facebook connect or click any “Like” buttons: basically refrain from ALL Facebook related activity.

Soory if this is spammy, but just incase you missed it
