    5 Minutes to update posts

QUICK .. do it faster! If you want to add content to this forum, you better rush it in and get it right the first time!... is that the message you want to send out to posters? Well, you have your own prerogative.

Being marched of to write my post and update it as quickly as I can is a little off putting.

Unlike some of the scrubbies of this forum I like to spend a little time polishing and making my posts a little sparkly and then going back to dampen my initial 'light hearted' insults that could have been taken the wrong way.

I also like to add some style, and it's just not possible to see this style when you initially submit a post.

Ah... I know, don't you just hate style
Gosh, giving something colour to make it readable and useful... surely this has no place on a forum (if there was a colour for sarcasm, this would be it!)

Why...why, why... why do you do this to us?

I love being able to update my posts. Okay, I don't need to update it 6 hours from now, but at least give me 30 minutes to go back, read it, add some style and make it more useful for other members (not to mention correct my grammar and spelling mistakes, and bluntness)

.. but alas, we are restricted to 5 minuets to update our posts. Can we push this limit up a little please.

Expect yucky styled posts from me if this limit is not lifted

I can't answer whether we could or whether we would ... but I can say that while I understand why you want to do that, it could often mean that you are polishing and editing after other people have posted replies to what they thought you meant to say.

and so what? That's a good thing [now I'm sounding like a spoilt discontent teenager that did get his way] Polishing wont affect the general flow of conversation. Changing the content might, but hey... wouldn't you rather have a thread that was grammatically correct, easy to read, easy to understand, and great content for search engines to crawl, and users to gain information from.

If there are malicious posters .. bugger them! Stopping them from changing content 6 hours in the past should prevent most maliciousness.

Or do we just like picking up on people errors to prove them wrong ? Shucks...

Sometimes we do change things that we didn't quite intend to sound the way we said it (as an example, that sentence could be clearer, but alas... I wont have the time to update it). You can guarantee from time to time I will write that sort of content, because I'm far from perfect

But being able to change our posts ...isn't this a good thing.
In this forum most posts aren't answered for at least few minutes, particularly if the content is large, and changing the content to mean something different might make the conversation for the next posters not as applicable. But the general conversation for the thread is surely more important!

What I am saying is, the thread is important, answering the person intended query is important, hell! Style is important.. but proving an error in someones post is insignificant to the thread, to the users, to the people that use search engines and everyone, apart from the first person that answer the post/thread. I value threads and their importance in modern search engines, I do not value picky opinions (although some have been very useful in correcting me in the past)

While I do understand the concern re. changes made after others have responded, 5 minutes is simply unreasonably short, particularly given that any number of issues can result in the physical inability to act within said time span.

Even as I write this, I am persistently hung waiting for WPW to respond to requests for "Advanced" mode and/or a "Preview Post." Were it the case that I were now trying to Edit a post immediately following its having been submitted, I would quite likely be prevented from succeeding at such.

oh c'mon. I'm seeing shoddy cods-wallop posts even from posters that I highly respect....(I'll never tell you who you are! Eshh, to think I would have to be nice to someone)
Let us updated the posts we write, give us at least 15 minutes...No give us 30 minutes...for ger-geepers sake!

Our posts are what make the forum! Start whacking us with that strict cane of 'get or right the 1st time' and you'll see a drop in contributions (I might have deleted this part of the comment had I more than 15 minutes to reflect on it's negative impact)

opps.. no time to update the colour ;(

Given that we once has substantially more than 5 min., and that sometime within the past 2 or 3 days the Edit button was visible well over 24 hours after my posts were made, this is clearly yet another undesired effect of the "new & improved" - - version of the site.

Good gracious, here's some more new "features." I've just gone into "Preview" mode, and see that :

    • The vertical Scroll Bar, along with a portion of the text, is covered by the Emoticon panel; and,
    • The Emoticons are randomly rendered in different sizes and resolutions.

What is standard for a time to edit posts? I rarely go back. And I don't have the hang up time to get to Advanced Mode ... guess there are advantages to status.

If we used to have a longer time to edit, this might be one more thing that needs adjustment with the update. I will make sure Rah knows.

Just make sure that you always work from the same static IP Address, so that all of the systems between you and WPW recognize yours as being privileged and high priority traffic.

I've never actually timed it; but, I can clearly recall such time here as having been much closer to 30 min. than to 5.

I always, well mostly, or maybe just 'generally when I think about it', use the advanced mode. This way I can edit away to my hearts content. I find this suits me quite well.

Sometimes when it comes to posting I simply click on 'preview post' ( Thinking I have sent the post ) later to discover that I have left the forum without having actual posting the post. I think I shall allocate the blame for this directly upon myself. I would dearly like to allocate the Blame to Rah or other administrators for my own stupidity, it would seem I do spend a fair amount of my time in 'stupid mode'.

As 'due course' for my ramblings a percentage of my post will with little argument come under the heading of 'stupid' . . I do not mind this as it is probably offering a representative and balanced view of my thoughts.

I like new fresh thought and perspectives -
I really do like the concept of blaming the forum changes for 'clicking the send button before the post is finished'.

P.S. I am laughing realy . . Moderators can come back a week later to edit. (evil chuckle)

I might just give you some green rep for an original concept.
