Interesting to see you've mixed in a few for Australia. We all struggle to find good sites relevant to locations outside the US. Microsoft's LIVE maps are just plain broken for people outside the US because they don't offer us the ability to update locations and details. Thanks for the list.

Mixed in a few? This is simply a compiled list of the sites google gets its reviews from for the local results.... I did not 'mix in' anything.

Ok, Upon further inspection using a few UK proxies, Google has different sets of sites they use depending on geographical location. So, a proposal to all of you...
Anyone outside the US, go to google, do some searches, look at the google places listings and compile a list of review sites that google uses for your country/area and post it here so we can all benefit.
I will update the first post to include all lists we can get here, so all of us have a comprehensive list available when needed..

qype, tipped and yelp look like they might be the dominant ones.... There's not many searches apart from hotel/restaurant orientated that I'm managing to get Places reviews for - can try specific search if anyone wants to give suggestions.

As you know Google is no longer scraping reviews but continues (reportedly or assumedly) to use them as a local ranking factor.
