This might be another reason for implementing RDFa elements in your web documents because as we know, RDFa helps search engines have more clarity as to the nature of your data.
Google has now introduced click-to-call phone numbers in local ads on mobile devices (http://adwords.blogspot.com/2010/01/introducing-click-to-call-phone-numbers.html).
Now this functionality has to do with local ads for local searches but what is the future of this? Creating RDFa formatted websites with hcard properties (http://www.google.com/support/webmasters/bin/answer.py?answer=146861) could lead to business phone numbers being listed in the organic search results and clickable as well - so far within a mobile environment.
I'm not sure how important having a mobile version of your website is to you but as an SEO I can tell you our clients are becoming more and more aware of these abilities and it's only a matter of time until we are asked to take care of such functionalities.
What's your take on click-to-call numbers for locals ads on mobile devices? Does it matter much or nothing to you?
I can tell you I'm taking this seriously and will be keeping up with any new developments regarding this new service.
