Our business uses Whois on a near regular basis - within the last couple of months using the "popular" Whois sites have come up with "no information found" or very bare minimum; tested 5 of our own domain names and apparently we don't exsist either. Has anyone else encountered this problem? AND which Whois search site do you prefer?

I don't think this is in the right forum, but nobody appointed me the police, so I'll just answer your question.
I use http://www.dnsstuff.com - All kinds of cool tools to play with.
Enjoy.

for what it is worth...this is a bit of speculation based upon using whois on a number of websites over the last few months. I've had the same question, by the way.
It appears that Verisign registered sites don't return whois queries unless the site doing the whois is somehow registered with Verisign. This appears especially true for Verisign compeitors...other sites that register domains.
Again, this is pure speculation. I'd like to find out what is going on as well.

Hey everyone,
At long last we've created a domain forum where you can post any domain-related questions your e-Business loving hearts desire ;)
Hope this helps!

Thanks Brittany for opening up this forum.
Flood6 - dnsstuff.com looks like it does have lots to play with - thanks!
My favorite is Whois Source - http://www.whois.sc/
If you ever need techy domain stuff like IP and NameServer lookup - this one has lots of different options. http://www.completewhois.com/whois.htm
I am always looking for cool new Whois tools, so keep on sharing yours.

I have to websites I use for whois.
I use whois.domainpeople.com when I want a quick whois with the nameservers, expiration and domain status. (I even built software that works with the above whois to check domain status in Yahoo Listings).
When I want a full whois I usually use directnic.com
