View Full Version : Real Time Search is here!
Real Time Search has been frequently discussed lately, and it looks like it is now a reality. While the rollout of live search results may take a while (it is slowly being added to Google accounts) it appears to have been released for all searches on Android and iPhone phones, at least if they are using the default browser, by clicking Options then Updates in the upper right corner of the SERPs. Give it a try on your phone, or in a desktop search if available. What do you think of this search?
Just some further information. The real time search will include results from Twitter, MySpace, Facebook, FriendFeed, Jaiku and Identi.ca.
Also, note that if you have not yet been upgraded to real time search, you can sample the feature by going to Google Trends and clicking one of the hot topics on the list.

I have to say that it sounds dreadful for the most part, but it will be interesting to see how it functions.
Twitter and Facebook contain a lot of junk - I don't really want to see that cluttering up the Google results.

Real Time Search will be a big challenge for the SEO industry. I am looking so much forward. :)
I read from somewhere that it could also read some barcode stuffs. how is this and what is the application for it?

RTS isn't really an SEO thing.. More of a Social Media thing.. Different skillset even though some people think that they can do it all..

I think you are thinking of Google Goggles, also launched the same day as Real Time Search.
It is, as far as I have seen so far, constrained to its own area, much like new results and video results are in their own blocks, rather than scattered down the page. This was one of the elements that I was curious about when I first heard about real time search being added - how would it be integrated into the actual page.

Maybe you can read about that here: Google Barcode Logo Celebrates Anniversary Of Barcodes (http://searchengineland.com/google-barcode-logo-celebrates-patent-27362)
But do not continue this topic here, as you are going off topic. If you have questions on that, feel free to start a new thread.

Hi,
I just have read here (http://digital.venturebeat.com/2009/12/07/google-real-time-search-wont-kill-journalism/) where Amit Singhal from Google is saying that
"Google developed a new “language model” to distinguish tweets with original content from those that were just re-posted by bots; but beyond that, isn’t there a risk of misinformation drowning out the truth if there’s not a good way to distinguish between the two?"
Can anybody elaborate this that how this would be possible and what will be the impact of this on serps?
Cheers,

Personally im just wondering if there's actually a market big enough for a purely real time search only as well as a purely traditional search. Having personalised, real time, localised search is not what we all want all the time.

Hi Webnauts,
Thank you for the link, it helped me a lot to get a deeper look into the matter.
Cheers,

This is because it is a slow rollout. Trends searches will work for everyone, but general searches are being enabled a few accounts at a time.
