View Full Version : Where Did Everybody Go?

Seems to me Webproworld is dying as a forum. The posting rate seems to decline every day such that nowadays there's rarely much of interest to comment on.
So where else should I look for interesting discussions? I'm primarily interested in programming for the web?
If post are declining then you can help by posting new posts, others will also follow.

Maybe they are busy...:) Don't worry they will be back soon.
I don't agree. Why post when there is nothing new to post about? I have watched WMW and there is little of greater interest there.
My main other forum is https://forums.codegear.com/index.jspa?categoryID=1
Here https://forums.codegear.com/forum.jspa?forumID=93 is one of my favourite subforums.
But embarcadero: Database Tools and Developer Software | Embarcadero Technologies (http://embarcadero.com/) sell proprietary software that I first bought in the late 80's. Borland Turbo C++.
Not everything of quality is free. I am mainly interested in C++Builder and Delphi PHP.
Another interesting technology you should be aware of is cURL. Read more here http://www.webproworld.com/webmaster-resources-discussion-forum/94229-webmasters-forget-browsers-ses-make-your-own-ethical-webbots.html#post478195 (No comment so long. So you are invited to comment).

I'm here!! I'm back after about a year MIA and it doesn't seem so busy, but I wouldn't say it's dead. I find a couple of items to comment on every day now. I agree with Ace; if it's too quiet for you, please create a thread on an interesting or controversial topic! Maybe we could revive the lost art of reciprocal linking! ;\

I've reconsidered participation as well after a two or three year break - seems there are far fewer development and design topics to hold my interest and, as much fun as it is to discuss and re-discuss SEO rumors and fads, I'd say it's more useful for all involved to actively test the theories and acquire firsthand knowledge (granted, it's far easier to discuss).
Some forums which cater to development interests:

DaveSawers - Seems to me Webproworld is dying as a forum. Know what you mean but not dying, just not moving much and hardly breathing recently. At one point last night (GMT) I think there were just 7 members logged in.
kgun - Why post when there is nothing new to post about? and danlefree - seems there are far fewer development and design topics to hold my interest. My feelings too. I tend to 'hang around' making a nuisance of myself (1,000,000 & Baby Boomers mainly) just hoping that an interesting worm will pop up whilst I'm logged on.
What to do? I'm just going to keep on plugging away, try to appear helpful and optimistic, and wait for the patient to open their eyes and sit up. Now for my controversial thread...

Posting is usually slow during the summer months. I know I haven't been around. Visited breifly a couple of months ago and then life interupted again.
I'd have to agree though. You can only talk about, listen to, and discuss so much SEO before you get bored. I'd love to see more posts on Unix, programming, software development, shell scripts (only because I'm stuck trying to write a script and am having a huge brain fart!!!), and anything else that doesn't relate to SEO.
There is more to computers than web design and getting your sight noticed. I haven't found a good website yet on the subjects. Atleast any worth posting at....

While at the time you first posted that I didn't notice anything, I have noticed a drastic decline since Thanksgiving. All the threads to which I'm subscribed have died down to no posts. I've been sick since Thanksgiving so I haven't replied/subscribed to any new ones so that's worked out ok for me. ;) I can't recall in years past, but it could be this time of year people are just busy with other things. I know I am busier this time of year.

Clearly the lack of controversial comments on your part, Clint, is a major contributor.
Personally, *I* never get bored with SEO ... and I do agree it's quieter ... so, let's use Twitter, etc. to drive some traffic to WPW.
I think it's normal to find a bit less activity during the run-up to the Christmas break. Many people are busy doing their shopping, preparing for travel or guests, wrapping up their business year...
Nevertheless, as has been said, starting a thread on an interesting or controversial subject is sure to bring some folks out of the woodpile.
For instance, we could start a thread discussing MJ's HUGE ears, or Clint's fondness for farm animals... surely there must be some relation to SEO to be found there.

I'm new to this forum and I can see what you mean. I like forums that are in the middle. Not too busy nor dead.

 Hey, you weren't supposed to spread that around. ()
(Although I really do love animals, but not "in that way"...........just FTR.)

I make that 9. COME ON! I've got a strong feeling that anyone under the age of 30 shouldn't be allowed to post on this forum. They show now commitment, consistency or loyalty. Above all, they know nothing about nothing - except twitter and mybigface and seeme, which isn't worth knowing about!
I've gone and done it now haven't I? Good bye!
IMO the most important thing is not how many are online and how many new posts there are. The most important thing is communication when necessary with informed members, the valuable sticky posts and other posts.
Personally I have been on 4 weeks holiday where I had to leave my Pc so I did not, with probability 95, die in front of my computer within the next 5 years. I simply came to the conclusion that my priorities in life are now:
Health - food and physical activity.
Familiy - strongly related to 1.
My own little company.
Everything else.
In that regard, I have decided to reduce my time on forums and social media and concentrate on my own sites. For months I may stay away from the internet and only develope sites locally on my laptop. Simply more reading of quality It books and foccus on own site development.
I have already imporved my health by staying away from the internet for one month.
As a friend I met on Gran Canaria said.
"Kilograms disappear with changed food (habits) and grams disappear with increased physical activity."
Generally, quality is better than traffic and activity. Cool / semantic URL's don't change. IMO, the best forums on the internet are not the forums with highest activity.
Personal conclusion: Health is priority no 1. Online activity priority 4th or less.
Personally, I learned more reading three It books while on holiday than discussing for months with more or less informed members. Some discussions that even contributed negativelly to my health with increased blood pressure and frustration.
Hi, Kjell! I hope you had a good holiday!
I'd have to agree with your assessment. In fact, my wife has been hinting (okay, not exactly hinting, more like scolding) that I spend far too much time on my computer. She is right (but if anyone quotes me, I will deny it!).
Good to see you back, however brief the stay. :D

That is so true! Couldn't agree more! (And #1 and #2 could swap positions back and forth, back and forth). We all tend to put too much emphasis and precedence on 3 & 4 and I'm very guilty of that. I have to keep reminding myself and that 1 & 2 are what's important and stop worrying myself into an premature grave about 3 & 4!
I have already imporved my health by staying away from the internet for one month.
Ain't that the truth! That's one quick way of immediately improving my own health! The internet (mainly G and spammers) have been the #1 contributor of my depression and health problems! I regret the day I ever went online.

Indeed!!

All boards have ups and downs in activity.
Just as the random paths and speeds of a myriad vehicles create areas that are both densely and sparsely populated, so too the interactions of the activities of any group's members and the effects of the events of the world.

To answer that will require a close-up on-site inspection, as I seem to have lost my x-ray telescopic vision. ;)

As most of our forum members might be busy in the holiday season, it will definitely affect the web activities. Hope everything will be normal in the coming days.
