Google vs Yahoo and link value

Can anyone explain why my site www.mortgageratesgroup.com is showing at #16 on yahoo for "Michigan Mortgage Rates" yet I am off the map on google. This is a fairly new site so I don't have a ton of inbound links. Is my non-existence on google related to the lack of links or am I being penalized unknowingly for something.

I think its a result of the competitiveness of the phrase (over million results) and freshness of your site.
Just try to get more links (especially with anchor text containing your keywords) and wait for the positive changes :)

Google and Yahoo are different companies, they use different algorithms, so rank sites differently.

You have not been penalized and adore is right - work on the links, especially with keyword(s) in teh anchor text.
