Windows 7 Pirated in China

This could be the most disturbing news for Microsoft. Microsoft is planning to release Windows 7 in a big way. But China PC market has tons of windows 7 copies. Of course, pirated ones.

That could be a real punch in the gut to MS! Like the article says, even with decent enforcement efforts, it could easily take several years to get any semblance of control over it. By that time, MS will take a major bath on 7.

i dont understand why china make everything in pirated way.. it doenot have its own mind or what... well i think their mind is even pirated...

There's a double whammy in China - the cultural aspect where average folks over there don't understand the value of intellectual property and immature government support for IP rights.

This is quite possibly part of the problem. I think the perspective between China and the West differs greatly both in terms of IP rights and perceived value.

I have had Chinese colleagues express amazement that a relatively simple mechanism can cost $250-$300K in the US, when they can build it in China for $12-15K, and sell it for $20K, with a very healthy profit margin. I think from that standpoint, they are simply exploiting an opportunity. Their concept of IP rights is dramatically different from ours.

My understanding is that IP laws in China only apply to Chinese intellectual property. IP from outside is fair game. They are certainly not the only nation in the world to hold that philosophy.

May be windows 7 developer need to think smart to reinforce the strategy to avoid software piracy at large scale. Intellectual property and Ip rights have become just law less game.

But microsoft update when taken for pirated software will work against them. Few notification from microsoft for genuine window licence and if not taken care your system is gone..Good approach by microsoft so far.

quite true but those products lack in quality.
