View Full Version : Blue Screen in Vista and not in Windows 7?

Has anyone tried Windows 7 yet? Let's cut to the chase. I got the Blue Screen of Death several times with Vista. Several times I got it because Vista did not allow for multiple virus detection programs being on one machine at the same time (they did not even have to be running). And now I am having a huge headache. I am getting the BSOD for seemingly just going through a collection of possible fonts that I might want to install. It seems there is a limit to the number of font windows you can have at the same time.

So naturally I am wondering what is next? And naturally I am wondering if really truly these problems are fixed with Windows 7.

Is Windows 7 anything special? I suppose it will have the usual Microsoft Windows problems.

To be honest I don't think running more than one anti-virus program is ever recommended - even by the av software companies.

However, Windows 7 is very good. Much better than Vista and probably everything Vista should have been.

I'm only using the RC1 at the moment but have no problems, installed fine, detected all my laptop drivers and runs nice and smooth. I don't notice any real performance issues either.

I suspect that give i a year or so and most corporations will make the leap from XP to 7 and skip out Vista.

Blue Screen of Death several times with Vista:

Yes I got BSOD when trying to update Vista on a new installed machine with the MS updates.

I tried W7, (RC1) but have found some programs refuse to function correcly, including Expession Web, and Move Maker, (note both MS sofware). (Even in the so called XP compatability mode)

I'm back to stable XP now.:D

Windows 7 is better than Vista but then so is Windows 3.11 :(

I use it as a virtual computer on my Macbook. It is pretty good, better than Vista. I hate to throw stones but I don't like working on anything other than OX. I have used a mac since college and I am hooked. oh well.

Any suggestion on using Ubuntu Linux?
How is it different from Microsoft OS?

Hi Complete,

I very much doubt that running 2 virus software is causing the problem.... what is the STOP error code?

A BSOD is normaly caused by faulty hardware (i.e. failing hard drive, corrupt file system) or OS corruption (i.e. failed Microsoft update, corrupt registry, malware).

First thing to try is F8 and select "Last Known Good Configuration"

If you can get into safemode try and run a virus scan (Malwarebytes and Micrsofts security essentials) and the run a chkdsk from command prompt or from tools under the drive properties.

If you cant get into F8 safemode either slave the drive on another computer or boot to the recovery consol and run command prompt from there.

not even a single virus problem or blue screen of death till now.

Hey i even im using Windows 7 OS from the past one month but i don't face the problem what u have been facing ,also i suggest u not to have more than 1 Anti-Virus software.......

yes, having multiple antivirus is the problem, they conflict with each other.

Ubuntu is ok but cannot be compared with windows operating system, I tries to use ubuntu but kept coming back to windows.

come on it is not windows 7's fault, you might have a faulty hardware. and this is the first time I'm hearing a person getting blue screen of death.

Nope Windows 7 is a cool operating system. After XP vista was just a mess but windows 7 is really good. My first vote is with ubuntu and fedora after this windows 7.

I guess you are a linux guy otherwise you won't have placed linux before windows.

I don't understand why you people think that, windows 7 has no problems. It is fast, simple, easy and has the right amount of eye candy.

I installed windows 7 and had BSODS later onwards, it was not the fault with the OS but i figured it out after a lot of messing around that i had a faulty ram. Removed it and voila...!!!A happy me.

I have been getting the blue screen alot in Windows 7, but it is since installing Ubuntu as well, and seems to occur having been in Ubuntu, then restarting and booting Windows 7, then blue screen of death comes, but rectifies itself on another restart.

Haven't had any BSOD issue with Win 7 no lock ups and haven't encountered any software incompatibility.
