Invasive Search engine links in IE

I noticed today that our webpages have links to search engines that seem to be a function of my browser. I remember that WebPro News reported a while ago Microsoft was talking about inserting this code in IE, but relented after an outcry from webmasters.
This is the first time I've seen it and it's appeared on two of our domains this morning, keyed to the words "cars" and "jobs". When the page loads those words are highlighted and hyperlinked to a search engine. If you click on the word, you LEAVE the website to go to the search engine. This is particularly irritating since we work pretty hard to get people TO our webs. We don't want internet explorer hijacking our web traffic.

Does anyone else have any information about what this is and how to defeat it?

this is not your browser, it is additional software. get rid of it.

As previously posted, this is some other software, not your browser. Having had a problem with this and other issues on a number of machines I manage, I went out and found adaware from lavasoft. (http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/) Cleaned several computers and all are now clear of these sorts of problems as well as many of the pop up add issues that also come up.

Basically, if a machine exhibits this sort of behavior it is because of spyware. Get Adaware. Get rid of the junk. Cry if you are using some 'free' software that installs this junk as it's way of staying free.

If you don't want Microsoft products to automatically generate smart tags on your web pages, then include this tag. It must be included on each page of your site. It has no effect on smart tags which you insert yourself.

<meta name="MSSmartTagsPreventParsing" content="TRUE">
The content must be TRUE.

I don't code a page without it anymore, even though I don't browse w/IE
