View Full Version : Can a blog help website?
Hi all,
Hope this is a right place to ask my questions as I did to the Social Media Forum?
Having an idea to increase traffic to my website would it be a good idea to create wordpress blog on my website? I am twittering occasionally in Twitter can my twitters be linked to Blog instead of blogging the same idea into blog? IF it is true would the submitting of this blog to the different directories help to promote my website?
Any of your suggestions and tips are so welcome.
Thanks.
Michael.

A blog is a good idea only if you use it. It is best when you blog at least twice a week and promote it on twitter and other places. If you have a client list send out an email when you have updated your blog like a newsletter. If your going to promote it on twitter make sure you have a non spam account to do it with. Use twitter to network. You can learn things and you can teach things. Don't use bots. If you are writing good content it will eventually start getting traffic from long tail terms. If you write good content people will start reading you. A blog only works if it informs and/or entertains. A blog without a good writer is not helpful.

You can also use a blog to put good text links to your site containing relevent keywords. If the blog does well and obtains its own links, this will give your site a boost.
Thanks guys for your responds. As I am not a best writer I am wondering whether my occasional twits on Twitter would be counted as some inputs for my blog. If it is a case please advise me what is the best way to do it. David, I would appreciate so much if you could clarify each of your statements -
"If your going to promote it on twitter make sure you have a non spam account to do it with. Use twitter to network. Don't use bots."
Thank you kindly,
Michael.

The way I do it is I follow people I respect and want to learn from. I have been doing SEO for 6 years and have made it a mission to meet and know the top people. I am an active member of the SEO community. Many of the top seo's link to me from their blogs because I wrote good content. I retweet what they say and they retweet what I say. I live in Austin, TX and I goto seo meetups and communicate with Austin SEO's on twitter. If you have written something useful people will retweet it. Use twitter to network. You can also network by making good comments on SEO blogs and be active in SEO forums. There is no one thing it is a package deal.

Website is a static type so can't add content on regular basis. Search engines like the sites that get updated on regular basis. So blogs would definitely add value to the website.
Moreover through blogs, one can address their clients and customers.

What? Why? You can add content to any site on a regular basis.

Thank you guys for your valuavle info.
As I am new to all this media stuff and wont be claiming my expertise in that I would still like be clarified on that issue.
Being a not a great writer I am not expecting my self to write a lot on my blog (which I still did not create( at all. I am occasionally twittering on Twitter. My question is -
Would my Twitter profile with all twitts be available to the blog's visitors at the same manner as in Twitter? Perhaps a blog should be optimized SEO and submitted to many directories. Also I am going to make a few links from my blog to the articles in my website. Will all those efforts are worthwhile to promote my website? Please advise.
Also how can Twitter or FB themselves help promote my website?
Any tips, suggestions are so welcome.
With much respect.
Michael.

Hello Dave! I just want to convey that when compared to blog, html site is static. In the sense... content addition is a tedious job where as in a blog....just write content and click publish button.

we've had good success with our blog in driving traffic and helping in SEO/SERPs. we post all our info direct to our blog and then link our other social media sites (e.g., facebook, twitter) to the blog's rss feed so that we only have to update content once.

Well, really, that should probably be another thread ... but to try and make it relate to the topic:
Here's one way these social network tools could help you with your blog.
Build a strong network on Twitter & Facebook; link the two together so that your Tweets become your FB status. Then tweet about every blog post and drive traffic to your blog.

A blog is a great tool to help breathe life into an otherwise static website. Google loves fresh content and what better way to do that than with a blog. This does mean that you will have to set aside time for yourself to blog on a regular basis.;)
