Neither Firefox no IE has following feature: when you type new url into address bar and hit enter new site would open in new tab not in current one. It never happens in real world and it's very annoying. Each time you have to preopen new tab and then type url. Do you now any settings that can fix this problem in Firefox or IE?

I don't really think it is possible - doesn't make sense to me. If you are typing in a different url, that means you no longer need the current tab :). On the other hand, when following a link, there's always the option of opening it in a new tab.

Interesting. There is actually only one browser I know of that supports this functionality, Deepnet Explorer, which is no longer maintained. I actually used it for a while with that setting enabled - it was very annoying. Generally, from a programming standpoint, the address bar is "linked" to the current tab, so it can't be used to spawn new tabs. Plus, the user has no way of telling the browser if they actually want to change the address of the current tab.

Omnick-

You are correct that neither IE nor FF offer that capability. And there is no navigation add-on that I could find, to give that function in FF, either. I usually just r-click a link and select OPEN IN NEW TAB, or open a new tab, and C&P the address into the address bar. I have never seen any other browser with this capability, either.

In IE & FF, why not go to File / New Tab...... Paste URL in.....It does not take any longer preopening a tab and pasting in a url than typing it in with a newtab: command if it existed.

If you type the url in the Firefox address bar, and then hold shift, ctrl and alt and then hit enter, it opens in a new tab.

I'm not sure if you are being serious or facetious here...

It's just Alt+Enter to open the URL in a new tab.

Same key combination works in Internet Explorer 8. Alt+clicking on the arrow will also open the page in a new tab in IE8.

So there is this kind of functionality after all. Great to have a programmer here :)

This is definitely a GOOD feature.
But most of us just rely on opening the new tabs.

Exactly, it's good to be aware of the feature, but it seems somewhat redundant.

I don't that before, its great. but at the same time you have type the whole address in the bar. It will be more time spending.
