I don't know how does it work. And I don't know much about datebases. An my englisch isn't very good. The worse at beginning ;) I only like to do an animal and plant datebase tougether and I don't know how to start it. My question is: Is tere any web side were I could found a good directions how to do it. Comperhensible for beginers?[/list]

First I would read through the stickys on these forums. Do you google type databases for beginners, database tutorials see what comes up.

I wish I could give you a more specific url I dont have mine organized yet.

I'm sure someone will be able to steer you in the right direction.

You meant MySQL of course, didn't you? And it runs on Windows boxes as well. I have both (plus Apache, FTPzilla, SSL, etc.) running on mine.

You are right about it being a home run, would have to agree with you there. It is simple and straight forward to learn ... more so than ASP and SQL Server stuff (which seems to change the way you have to use the programming every year). It is bulky and slower than the php/mysql combo. This is not a personal opinion, it is just a matter of fact.

Zend Technologies has some excellent articles/tutorials/tips about using php with MySQL. I see that some people already have mentioned php.net, mysql.com, etc. Those are a good place to start too.

I have found apache2triad to be a real gem.

Apache MySQL PHP PHPNUKE PHPBB and much more ready to go.

Best of all the manuals are included and it runs on Windows.

I just started teaching myself MySQL and PHP today as a matter of fact, so this thread caught my attention. :)

I downloaded and installed PHPDev on my windows machine and got it working without any problems.

It makes for a fantastic sand box to learn how to work with PHP and MySQL. Plus, there are tons of prewritten scripts out there to give you a head start.

Patrick - Now that you have your local server and php running, you will need a good editor to write and test your php scripts in.

For that editor (and I use it) there is one called Html-Kit. What is nice about this editor is that you can map your local server into it so that you can Preview your work all within Html-Kit itself. Of course you could use any editor of you choice and flip between it and your browser window and hit refresh too, but this makes it a little more convenient.

This software has a ton of plug-ins for building php scripts with that simplify it tremedously. It also has keyword text-sensitive help on the php functions that are just an F1 key away.
