I've seen a lot of people trying to figure out the best way to get links to their site.

I am one of those that have preached for years that it’s all about the back links. It doesn’t matter how much content you’ve got, when it comes to ranking for competitive keywords, it’s all about back links.

Here is what I’ve found works for me.

Start by creating a blog and submitting a couple articles to article sites as well as submitting your blog to the directories.

Then start posting like a wild man or woman.

The more you post, the more you will appear in blog search engines like Technorati, Google Blog Search, and Blog Search Engine.

However, people are only going to link quality post so don’t sacrifice quality for quantity.

Yes, back links are king but the best way to get them is with content.

Just my two cents.

It is not about new or old but about what works for better results.

However, the new one is social bookmarking

The links from social bookmarking are not strong enough to do much more than get your site spidered.

Not saying it's not worth doing, but those alone want get you ranked for the competitive keywords.

yeah it is good question that what would be next ... because now a days every one knows how to get back link ( quality and Quantity) , every one knows social media networking is Good source of having back links, traffic and getting index fast in Search engines , Thats why most social sites are making changes , now mostly popular Social sites become no dofollow and using bars on them , so social media networking is also going down for SEO Purpose , So what would be next in SEO World ????????????? Any thing new

I agree with Imran. to get index fast go to social bookmarking however, some of them are moving to dofollow so no link juices coming from them.

Most of the people don't understand it but if you write really useful, unique and quality content, backlinks WILL come naturally.

Everyone heard it a lot of times, but people are to lazy to actually do it and they always strive to find a way to trick the system, to get backlinks fast and easy, to rank without hard work and effort.

Once you try it and really create extremely useful content and gain natural backlinks, you'll never go back to searching for the "easy way".

As for me everything depends on the aim. Is your aim is to get indexed fast - social media links are great. If you want real traffic - you need strong content and links from relevant resources.

Qulitaty content will always get a lot of links. And I reallly doubt that it is easier to find a lot of authoritaty links when you have a little content, than to write interesting articles.

Janeth has mentioned the Blog Search Engine and I only found it recently, it is quite stunning and well worth looking at.

For me the best way to get backlinks are social bookmarking, blog commenting and posting, write and submit articles, and your forums sig..

An excellent post and a rep point awarded.
In fact over in Warriors just now a guy said - I used that linking system someone suggested and I've gone down in SERP - little wonder. If Google sees loads of sites all suddenly getting identical links, what other conclusion can it draw? Far better to follow Toni's advice.

Social networking and bookmarking is used for backlinking and as stated by janeth quality is the king who is ruling.
Without quality post your work will be worthless. So try to add as much good content as much as you can.

It looks like everyone is doing that nowadays. What's next?

When you first add content to your website or blog you’ll notice that the content ranks really well, as long as your website or blog already has some link strength.

This happens because Google has a filter that gives a bonus to new content.

After 3 to 14 days you’ll notice the ranking starting to drop. This is because the fresh content filter goes away.

The way to keep that content at the top of the search results is by promoting it, getting sites to link to it.

Once the content is posted, it’s a matter of getting more link strength to the web page, you have to have more link strength than any other web page that is ranking for that keyword. When you lose the fresh content boost you can still hold the number one position with link strength.

If your website link structure is done correctly then each web page you add to the site becomes stronger than the one before and the new page makes the last one stronger.

Getting Links with Content

Powerful and emotional content that shows someone how to make their life more complete, better, easier, more productive, more profitable and happier will always get people linking to it but what to do if those links are not enough.

How to Get More Links

1. RSS Feed Directories - This ones for the bloggers and forum owners, anything really with an RSS feed, even if you fake an RSS feed and randomize it, it can still work.

Here is a good list of places to submit your feeds.

* Feedest.com
* Postami.com
* 2RSS.com
* FeedsFarm.com
* RssFeeds.com
* Feeds4all.com
* Plazoo.com
* FeedBomb.com
* Page2go2.com
* Feedooyoo.com
* RSSmicro.com
* FeedFury.com
* Octora.com
* FindRSS.net
* FeedBase.net
* RSSmotron.com
* MoreNews.be
* DayTimeNews.com
* Rss-Feeds-Submission.com
* MillionRSS.com
* Yahoo RSS Guide
* MySpace.com News
* ReadABlog.com
* GoldenFeed.com
* BlogDigger.com
* RSSFeeds.com
* feed24.com
* Findory.com
* WeBlogAlot.com
* FeedBoy.com
* Chordata.info
* BlogPulse.com
* DayPop.com
* IceRocket.com
* Memigo.com
* Syndic8.com
* RSS-Network.com
* Feed-Directory.com
* Jordomedia.com
* Newgie.com
* Feeds2read.net
* NewzAlert.com
* Feedcycle.com
* Bloogz.com
* FeedShark.BrainBliss.com
* FeedPlex.com
* RocketInfo.com

2. Comment on other blogs. Good comments spark interest. Answering questions in comments gets people to interact. Comment hunt searches blogs without nofollow tags, you can search for relevant blogs the url is CommentHunt.com - Get Links from High Page Rank DoFollow Blogs (http://www.commenthunt.com)

3. Flickr - Flickr allows comments on photos taken by other people, pick suitable pics and simply write a comment.

4. Article Submission – Write articles and submit them to article sites.

5. Blog sites:
blogtopsites
blogtoplist
topblogging
blogcatalog
LSBlogs
Blogdigger
MyNewBlog
TopBlogArea
DigNow
TopBlogRateDir
Blogs.com
Blogifer
Skinny
Bloggernow
BlogsOnTop

6. Show related posts in your blog entries. A blogger might find your site via one article but find a different one that they’re really interested in. Showing related posts can help them to be found more easily. If you’re using wordpress, you can use the related posts plugin here.

7. Use deep-linking. Deep-linking is when you link to older posts or pages in new posts or pages.

8. Do blog reviews. Lots of webmasters will link to you in exchange for reviewing their site.

9. Get a MyBlogLog account. MyBlogLog.com is like MySpace for bloggers.

10. Review products on your site. Most brands are trying desperately to get more exposure. If you provide a thorough, fair review of a company’s product, it might get linked to. For best results review products from new, up-and-coming companies.

11. Write testimonials for sites whose services have helped you. The testimonials themselves will often turn into links, and the webmasters will surely check out your site.

12. Write and submit a press release. Sites like PRWeb will publish them and link to you.

13. Write to help others. If you can help other people to find more success, you deserve a link from them.

14. Interview other bloggers. Many bloggers want to be famous! They will jump at the chance to be interviewed. Add a page to your blog that let’s people in your field know that you are interested in interviewing them. Tell them how to sign up and they will. I can almost guarantee that they’ll be linking back to the interview once it’s published.

15. Use forums and discussion boards.

16. Answer people’s questions on Yahoo! Answers. You are able to link to resources on other websites that will help answer people’s questions.

17. Submit to blog directories like BOTW.

18. Write controversial content. Sometimes you can really get people talking by criticizing famous people and brands.

19. Create a Wikipedia page about yourself or your business. Wikipedia links don’t count due to a “no follow” command, but you will gain some exposure that will surely lead to additional links.

20. Create a Squidoo page about yourself.

21. Start a few more blogs. You can create free blogs on Blogspot. Give your main blog a link once in a while. There isn’t any reason to make 1,000 links with it, just link once in a while. Maybe you could even update the blogs once a week. Who knows, you might make some money with those as well.

22. Link to your blog from your MySpace page.

23. Create a wordpress template. If a person uses your template they will be linking to you from every page of their site.

24. Donate sites to non-profit organizations. Non-profits usually get a lot of links from government sites, and so they would be ideal to design for. Make sure to include a “design donated by YourSite.com” at the bottom.

25. Setup blogs for other people. Make sure you include, “Designed by MySite.com” or “Inspired by MySite.com.” Help them to achieve success and their links will become a lot more valuable.

26. Build your own link structure.

Awesome list of RSS feeds directories Janeth, thank you. I think that's a solid approach as a blogger for backlinks. Main thing is to have as many feeds going out as possible, then blogging as fast as you can while maintaining quality. Each unique blog post can yield you thousands of links if enough rss feeds are circulating for your blog.

Just my two cents.

Bl from blog is good idea but its doubling the work...need to promote the blog first the get the Bl from it... instead of can promote the site directly.. this is what i feel...

Very true:

The easiest, free and legit way to get high quality and natural links is to write excellent, useful, information rich content and add it in your site. People finding that content useful will link to your site for free.

I am desperate to scream it out, but I will get anned for spamming I would think. My company has spent 6 months developing a system that makes building and managing backlinks easy - submitting to endless directories etc, - its a thing of the past, for me anyway.

Yeah i agree, though the link juice from unrelative sites will not have a greater impact that of niche inbound links. The most effective link back recognized by search engines are to have inbound links with niche sites that have good PR. Also getting links from Domains like edu, gov and etc are also considered powerful.

One question. If a site gives you back links on more than one of its pages, does it count as two links or just one link? What about If it uses different anchor text for the two links but the same url of your site?

If your website link structure is done correctly then each web page you add to the site becomes stronger than the one before and the new page makes the last one stronger.

Can you clarify this?

I believe that the experience from Janeth is through trial and error. I have gone through some changes since I began to create my site. I ever wrote an post in this forum doubting about the saying of content is king. Combined with my recent experience about my site, now I have to admit that what Janeth said is pretty true. The best way to get backlinks is with content, quality content.
