View Full Version : Virtually Managed Solution Question
What are your thoughts on the best virtual managed hosting solution out there that will allow managing of 100 domains or more via CPanel with superior functionality, support and reliability available to each and every domain hosted.
I currently have a plan with a company allowing for up to 90 separate virtually hosted domains with individual CPanels and root management of all hosted domains. But the service is getting a bit stale and I need more control over each client's space in terms of storage, data transfer etc. Support has been good, but automated management of those domains I look after plus a good installable ecomm module is what is lacking.
Any thoughts?

Who is the present host?
Do you need IIS, Apache, or both?
Blue Genesis are the suppliers of VMS plans. The service has been pretty good, but E-commerce solutions and other required managed features have fallen behind our needs.

You'll need proactive monitoring and load balancing, I think this could be right time for you to shift to fully managed dedicated server.

Have you thought about getting your own server, with your own control panel license?
The orignal plan was to offer the hosting as a value added service with design, maintenance and SEO as the main parts. As it is I don't have much available free time for dedicated monitoring and managing a hosting service, nor do I want to hire at this time if that is what is being suggested.
It probably would be the way to go if I wanted to market and grow the hosting service. But competition is extremely high, prices are all over the map and as I mentioned before, the hosting was more of a value added service for design clients.
I was just wondering if there was a better virtual hosting service available. Or at least be able to compare another service to what I already have in place.
Blue Genesis are the suppliers of VMS plans. The service has been pretty good, but E-commerce solutions and other required managed features have fallen behind our needs.
My own experience with Blue Genesis has been much less than satisfactory for these specific reasons:
1) Their control panel is one of the poorest I've seen.
2) Their account/service matches are strange. For example, one client had a package with two database user accounts and three databases. These were not adjustable without changing packages.
3) I had a question about their domain pointing. When I asked if they were doing a 301 redirect, their chat people didn't know what I was talking about; their sales people didn't know what I was talking about; their technical people just sent me back to sales and wouldn't answer the question.
I've started storing chat and email help responses from various web hosts. They are always good for a laugh!
You are right -the CP is old and needs to be replaced - they tell me a Plesk like CP is in the works giving us more control over VMS accounts.
The tech support sometimes drives me nuts, and I also keep all my tech support chat sessions as well for reference if need be.
Usually I go directly to a local Manager of operations when tech support issues don't get resolved, which is working out pretty good.
But generally I have been told that there are things in the works as I mentioned above, but normally it's the advances in e-commerce and more control over each domain account specs that I am hoping for.
This again, I am told is in the works. Generally I take this kind of statement with a grain of salt, but they have usually followed through with what they say they're going to do even if it takes a while. The only question is how long these updates will take. So far July has been casually mentioned, but delivery dates, even estimated ones, usually are pushed back. So we'll have to see.
