When and how often does Google update the content analysis for sitemaps you submit to them?
Under Google Webmaster Tools - Diagnostics - Content Analysis, the "last updated" shows "Last updated Apr 10, 2009" which is when I created and submitted a new sitemap.
The web crawl errors page indicates it was updated yesterday, so that's working.
I left this as is: Let Google determine my crawl rate (recommended).
Any ideas?
Thanks,
Steph

Google immediately takes note of your updating a site map, and queues the site for re-crawling. However, given the variable work load, and that Google's is a distributed system, with many & widely scattered data centers, there's no certainty as to then such re-crawl will occur. Generally, though, I'd say that such happens in less than 2 weeks; but, your mileage may vary.
As for a desired re-crawl rate, unless you are making changes more frequently than Google is re-crawling at its own pace, or are unable to promptly generate & upload revised site maps, I'd let it up to them.
It should be noted, however, you can not increase your crawl rate by artificial means such as through Webmaster Tools. The only options they give you are default and slow - the intent behind this option is that if Google is overwhelming your server's bandwidth or processing capabilities you have a way to tell Google to slow down. Some (extremely large, high PR) sites may be given a third option, but as far as I can tell this is pretty rare and requires that the site be very stable, have a lot of bandwidth, many high PR deep links, and a ton of content. Wikipedia might have that option, the site for a major city's newspaper might not.
Updates to the content analysis do not appear to depend only on the crawl rate of your site. From what I can tell, the page is updated "periodically" when Google has crawled enough of the site's content and seen enough changes that the engine feels it is time to re analyze the content. I don't think there is a set schedule. If anything, it probably varies from site to site based on crawl rate and the rate at which the content changes.

It was a problem with Google. since several other customers had the same problem with the same last date updated.
It finally got fixed! Last updated Apr 26, 2009

Hi, Wige and Deepsand,
Mainly, I used an XML sitemap generator (http://www.xml-sitemaps.com/) so I could quickly find and correct whatever my website needed.
I fixed 50 broken links very easily with the report I got from xml-sitemaps.com and their standalone sitemap generator and am very pleased with them.
This is meant as a wisecrack: I don't need to influence the search engines. I'm in the top three non-sponsored links for my business segment. It's a round robin among a published magazine article, a youtube video and my site. Sometimes, I'm number one and sometimes down to 2 or 3.
I was number one for at least 3 years, so now I think I'd better make a youtube video! :)
Thanks for the advice and help!

Apparently, but Gog has given it back again!

How many "we's" are we talkin' about? Besides, somebody should be in my youtube video and it isn't gonna be me! :D

BTW, what does mannequin-lady mean to you? When I came up with that user ID it was for the major segment of my business, but sometimes when I look at it, it's like ... a robot rather than a human. ewww

In case you're interested, I just posted a question about outbound links without a reciprocal inbound link:

Just a "small circle of friends," to quote Phil Ochs.

Which is precisely that I took it to mean. As for undertones, rather than non-human, I see the idealized human.

And this small circle of friends probably amounts to the contenders in the NYC marathons!

Only if you can find someone who's really, really good at herding cats. :D

I'm not good at herding animals. I leave that to the experts, like border collies! :)

Wow! Idealized? I don't know how I missed this, but thanks ... I'm taking this as a compliment. :D

Does having made someone smile mean that my work for the day is done? :???:

Yes, but it's too late now, since it's the next day. :)
