Hi,

I've not tried Twitter to drive traffic to my website, but twitter is evolving as a good microblogging platform and generating a lof traffic . I will be trying it to get traffic.

The potential is great.

Right of the bat decide if want the account to very "personal" or very business like.

Even if you opt for personal be careful as with casual microblogging you may become to "loose" and it could haunt you.

You can not edit posts and even those that you erase may not disappear even if you can't see them anymore.

If used correctly and I highly suggest you read up on what to do and not to do cause your 1st Tweet is your 1st interaction with everyone.

You only have 1 shot at 1st impression.

Make it count.

Twitterers don't like to be sold... they want to communicate, or learn or ???

We've just started using it on a LiveSEO project that tweets and blogs about a real time SEO project on one of our ecommerce sites.

find something unique and genuinely useful - and setup a tasteful autoresponder like TweetLater or SocialToo that will let them know that you'd like to have genuine dialogue with them about your industry - but don't sell them in the autoresponder.

There are several e-books on Twitter tips, I'd recommend reading them

I guess I could just sum everything up and say - "Be Genuine"

Relationships take time to develop, and Twitter is a relationship building tool, not an instant checkout line.

Having recently launched a new site with a bit of a community feel to it, I've been tempted to look into twitter, but have so far abstained.

Here's the thing... Isn't it the case that Twitter is just a new way of communicating that is enjoying a swell of novelty-based interest at the moment? Don't get me wrong, I'm pretty sure I could become a fan if given the time, but from what I understand, those who enjoy fame on a Twitter level, are those who would be interesting on any platform... print, radio, tv, blogs, etc, etc.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that if you or your product or service is, on the whole, uninteresting, why on earth would you think that tweeting, moo-ing or oinking about it is going to make it any more hip?!!

Again, I realise that for cetain people/organisations who enjoy a vaccuum for their information, Twitter may be a great tool. But I wonder how many marketing managers started blogs a few years back to drive tarffic/generate buzz etc, and forgot about them after a few posts.

It seems to me that there is a definate pattern to this kind of behaviour, where something reaches that critical mass of "The New Big Thing". As soon as this happens, people flock to take advantage and the content becomes poor & old hat.

Forgive the waffle... I just belive that unless you have something interesting to say, no platform is going to give you the magnetism you are after. Put a boring guy in an Armani suit & send him to a singles bar - he'll still come out empty handed!

I understand this forum is about SEO, but as engines & behaviour evolves, these things will become much less effective (I think!)...

Not sure many people including myself understand how twitter works, maybe someone who is very familiar with it can give a good example on how to use it. I suspect when you follow someone it triggers them to look at you to see if its ok. I think.

Thanks Bob

I am another one who get lost. I have no idea how to use Twitter for SEO or traffic purpose. However, I'll read, read and read, then try it again. Thanks for every useful link in this thread. :D

Twitter has proven to be a useful business tool, not just for social stuffs alone. Twitter is the in thing now, it seem to be taking over from Facebook.

i would advise against all the following actions for long term twitter credibility

rank your spammy seo site for "silly traffic less seo phrase"
power-twit every hour for weeks on end - "try a search for silly seo phrase, check out the #1 ranking, we could do the same for you.."
send them all to a special "tweeps" page
simultaneously spam the index with a zillion article submission and hosted blog accounts with "silly traffic-less seo phrase" links at your silly traffic-less seo site

all of these things will probably not help you on twitter ;)

Using twitter effectively to drive traffic is not too hard. But u should have follow some techniques.
At first follow peoples who r interested about your topic. You can do this effectively by using sites like twellow.
Post status on a regular interval like 3-5 hrs. U can use autopilots to do this.
Use twitterfeed to feed ur blog.
Follow this suggestions to get more traffic.

and the the key to get more friends are good twits. Keep on twitting about cool stuff that others want to find out more about, then they are going to add you as friend.

Twitter for anyone as an individual, is only as good as the people or businesses you follow or that follow you. For SEO or driving traffic, well the only backlink I see going to my site is my Profile link. On Traffic, there are several people that I follow that use it to increase traffic to new content like a link to new templates they have posted or industry tips. I follow those links many times as I know that their content is decent, so it has worked for them to drive traffic to their sites. Some that I like their content enough, I have opted to receive their tweets on my cellphone so I know immediately when something new is posted.

For a small business who is using it, promoting product or specials is easy. i.e., take a restaurant who is posting their lunch special, their followers who might be getting that tweet by cellphone, can make the decision of where they are going for lunch. This is just one of many examples, but for local use, it can be a great tool!

Heck, companies like Dell, Google and many other prominent companies and people are using it, I don't think it will fad out anytime soon.

Twitter does bring in a lot of traffic to our website. Twitter users can simply siging and post their tweet. They can also read tweets from their friends and followers on our website.

By creating content that is helpful and useful. You need to offer visitors the information they need to achieve a goal, solve a problem, be entertained, find out quality news or have a good laugh. Also add tell-a-friend button (you can get one for free from SocialTwist) in your blog/website template to allow your readers to quickly and easily share what they're reading with their Twitter followers.

I have been using Twitter for the past 3 - 4 months & got quite decent traffic to my site.
The reason being , you need to follow & get followed by quality twitters (people) & not some junk advertising / affiliate twitter that use to generate junk tweets.

Search for twitters in your niche / industry & check their profile before following them.
If someone follows you , pls do check their profile so that you don't fall into their list as 1000s do it.

If you have quality tweets , then ofcourse you will have lot of followers.

I've gone from Twitter sceptic to convert.

I think it depends a lot on the business type, but it seems to work well if you are tweeting things like forum threads, which in turn will generate more traffic and possible sign ups.

Have a long way to go, but going the right direction, key is to keep experimenting till you find what works for you.

I am not convinced of the twitter effectiveness.

But you might have right that it depends on the business type. It seems to me, that twitter is filled with spam messages. Nobody is really interested about the others tweet; they are all looking for to promote whatever they are involved with.

there are a lot of method to earn through twitter. You just need to keep patience and do the right things. You can do CPA, affiliate network or can handle any other twitter profile of business or products.

You can also use twitter to drive traffic to your website.

Well, as we all know that twitter is one of the well known social media site and there are lot of chances to get traffic from it. I have managed to get the traffic for my site by following few steps,
1. Make your twitter profile interesting.
2. Pick a niche targeted username.
3. Put your site/blog url in your profile.
4. Search for twitter users with similar interest.
5. Socialize on twitter as much as you can.
6. Tweet regularly.
7. Add twitter gadgets to your site.

and do not:

Spam,
Tweet the same tweets over and over,
Tweet all your tweets in one go,
Follow too many people in one go (remember there is a limit of 2000 untill you get in 20% reach of that)
Sign into 3rd party apps without testing them, they will often teet junk on your behalf
Twitter about what you had for breakfast unless it is of particular interest to your followers

It is very easy to integrate single sign on using third party plugin from RPX. You need to put some javascript on your website and configure service provider to allow your site access their information. If you need help to set it up on your website, please send me a private message. I will help you integrate this. First you should try to create an account with rpxnow and follow their instruction. If you need help, please let me know.
