I would be interested to know what WebProWorld users have to say about their priorities when it comes to hosting - what are your top priorities?
What technologies are you using now? If you've switched from a particular operating system, control panel, application, et cetera why did you switch?

I'm interested to see the results of this. Although I suspect it depends how many of the respondents are businesses where uptime will be important and how many are hobbyists where price wins.

Uptime!
It should be your # 1 concern as 1st impressions are hard to fix. Nothing worse than a site that will not open due to server issues.
Want to know who we use, more details .. just PM me.

Support, support, support.
Web hosting is like your toilet. You don't appreciate what it does until it stops. When it does, you want it resolved fast, fast fast.
Support, support, support.
For most of us, who do business with their website, a down or malfunctioning host is like locking the doors on your store, turning out the lights, and hanging an "out of business" sign out front. A responsive, expensive company is FAR FAR better than a cheap company who leaves you hanging (or worse, an expensive company who leaves you hanging like Hostway).

I think the exact order in which you listed the options in the poll is where I would place my priorities with a heavy emphasis on the fist two, i.e., uptime and pricing.

Sorry.. missed these questions due to the vote :)
What technologies are you using now?
Cloud Hosting
If you've switched from a particular operating system, control panel, application, et cetera why did you switch?
Some servers have typical cPanel servers that are easy to use for newbies. Others are more open and flexible to your software needs.
Are you looking to host 1 website or start offering web services?

True, True, True ;)
Make sure they have a Toll Free Number and actually answer it. Even live chat, see if anyone is home. Research the web for any bad things about a host your considering.

I have voted "Uptime/reliability".
Time = money. Period.:rolleyes:
There are many offering cheap hosting. So pricing is not an issue.
I agree that support is important. If you need so much support, you are probably a
novice. There are many free online instructional videos about cPanel, etc.
I'm not building big data bases to compete with G. Scalability/software and
hardware selection is not important to me.

Technical Support is definitely the number 1 market differentiator. Pricing, features, spces are all there on all hosting company websites - they all look same.
"Response time" and "quality" of support, both are important. I would also like to add the "clarity of communication" as one of the important attribute of support quality.

IMHO, if you are constantly calling support because one of your client's sites is down again, it doesn't matter how good the support is. The fact is the site is down, your client is unhappy and you are spending time on the phone. Once you have a very reliable host with 99.999% uptime, then support is next in importance to solve other problems that may arise.

Voted for "support" but I also look for Fantastico, and for good uptime percent. reliable. And since I've found 2 reliable hostings I use them for my websites so far.

Above all things uptime matters most for me. For other limitations there are always workarounds. I have switched from shared to virtual / dedicated hostings within same provider. The bigger providers will make it very easy for you.
