View Full Version : Very confusing - PR question
Is it possible to have a PR of 5 without even having been listed in Google directory???
Example: this website http://www.theperfectweddingguide.com
is not in Google directory (DMOZ) and have PR5.
I always thought that was impossible.

DMOZ is not special. You can easily get a PR of 5 without a link from DMOZ. You just need more links from other sites.
Anyway, PR is not really that important in Google's post-Florida algorithms.
PR is just a mathematical function of the links coming to your site - dosen't really matter who they are from.

Isn't DMOZ and Google Directory the same thing?
DMOZ or Open Directorty Project is a volunteer run Directory. It is called 'Open', like open source software, as anyone can use its database. They produce a weekly file that 100's of sites use as the basis of their own directory's. Google is just one of those 100's (probably the best know one).
Here is a partial list of the others:

Ok, another question ...
Normally all the sites in Google Directory have little green line beside their names that represents their PR. So, if I didn't have Google toolbar I wouldn't be able to check PR of that site since it's not listed in Google Directory. Right?
Yes you can.
BUT:
1. That assumes the site is listed in the directory
2. The PR indicator in the Directory is only updated when the Directory is updated, which is not very often - fortunatly the last time was earlier this week, so its pretty current.

OK, thanks CBP.
I was confused because I've always thought
that in order to have ANY PR you MUST be listed in Google's Directory ... Obviously, I've been sadly mistaken.
