I have heard that most search engines don't follow javascript links. Does it follow then that off site javascript links would not pass any PR value to the linked site?
My reason for asking is that I suspect that I would want to pass on as little of my PR as I can, while simultaneously providing interesting relevant links (that may be a source of revenue) for my visitors. Is it possible to have your cake and eat it too?

Most of the research I have read says that webmasters should stick to html links. Robots do not follow java or flash links. You don't have to alter your website completely, just include your site links at the bottom of the page. This doesn't mean you have to include every link to each webpage on your site; just include the pages that are important with content rich info. Each page should have about 200 words, with some keywords sprinkled throughout the page. You should include keywords in the alt tags of images. For more info you should look at www.bcentral.com

My advice is to concentrate on providing useful links for your visitors and stop worrying about the dubious hypothetical notion that linking out will "dilute your PR".
And if you are interested in improving your own search results positioning, getting people to link to you will certainly help - and they are not likely to do that if all your outgoing links aren't read by spiders...

As minisrel alluded to, its a hypothetical myth that you really loose PR that way - if it did, its only a trivial amount.
Look at it this way - you want other sites to link to you to get your PR (and ranking) up, but you are not willing to pass PR on to other sites - that smells of one thing to me --unethical
I do know of some sites that did that and have heard of competitors of them that gleefully emailed all the reciprocal links of that site to tell them what was being done - needless to say the site lost a lot of links and ranking .... (I can't confirm that this actually happened - it may actually be a urban myth)
