Hi everyone. I’ve been participating for a few weeks and have already learned so much, I think I’ll introduce myself and stick around.

I’m Carol, wife and mom to 2 young kids. I’m originally from Dallas/Ft Worth, Texas, but moved to Utah 10 years ago. I got my first job in IT 24 years ago. I started out programming large IBM computers, moved into Business Analysis and design, spending quite a few years in consulting. I’ve spent the last 10 years as a project manager and business analyst working with developers to create web applications for a large healthcare company. I now work on a team doing design and quality assurance for web sites and web applications for the healthcare company. I work part-time to spend more time home with my kids.

Also, 8 years ago, my husband and I opened our own retail store. I taught myself html to build our website, with online shopping. I’ve since handled all the webmaster responsibilities, seo, email marketing, and shopping cart implementations myself.

And to wrap this up, in the last couple of years, I’ve created websites for friends and family. I’ve been trying to increase my skills to the level that I could in good conscience actually charge money and have a nice part-time, work from home income in this business.

And so here I am, trying to learn everything I can from all of you. This is an active forum, obviously with a lot of talented people. I’m looking forward to learning a lot, participating, and hopefully giving back to this community.

Thanks for reading!
Carol

A note to moderators:

This was my 4th try at posting an introduction. The instructions at the top of this forum say a link is allowed. I included a link to my website in my first post - it said “your post will not be visible until a moderator has approved it for posting". When it didn’t show up after a week, I contacted the webmaster. According to him, that message really means your post is thrown out never to be seen again - because I had less than 10 posts. I tried a second time, after I had more than 10 posts, and had the same result. I tried a 3rd time, putting my link in a signature instead of in the content – same result. So, this 4th try is with no signature, no link. I still got the same message saying the post would be reviewed, but this time it appeared.

So, here are some suggestions from the point of view of a newbie: It would really be nice if the instructions at the top of this forum - "feel free to be a bit promotional...include link..." - were updated to fit the new rules so new members like me would not be so confused! And the Forum Rules and Guidelines referenced at the top of this forum could be updated regarding the 10 post minimum for a link/signature. And that needs to be clear – is it starting 10 threads, or just 10 posts? I have more than 10 posts and I couldn’t get a post to work with a signature with a link – unless it’s some kind of user error. :)

Thanks,
Carol
