View Full Version : How should I respond?
I created a new thread since I think no one is looking at the older one I posted a quick reply on.
Anyway I just recently bought a domain name not to sell but was looking for names for my new company. I got an email from someone yesterday asking if I want to sell this name, although I haven't thought much about reselling. Now that's someone's asking for it, I am wondering how much should I quote for it. His email was something like this:
"Hello
My name is **** *** and Im interested in buying your domain *** Are you are interested in selling it? If you are, do you have any idea how much you want for it? If you don't, let me know and I will make you an offer instead and we can take it from there.
Many thanks for your time"
Now how do you guys think I should reply to this email? My domain name is the same as his first name but he could have just made that up, right? Should I just now go to Sedo and put it up for sale....and then ask the person to make an offer at Sedo. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks.

Good luck with your venture. I hope it comes out the best for you.
Be careful though of scammers who will say ok to any offer you make. Then they request an appraisal from some companies they have an interest in. It has happened to me a few times. After I offered them an appraisal from the company of my choice, I didn't hear from them anymore.
I think going to Sedo and put it up for sale....and then ask the person to make an offer at Sedo would be a safe route to take. If they're serious, they'll make an offer at Sedo.
Just my 2¢.
Good luck.

Good Advice
There is a scam that sounds good but again they want you to use one of 2 appraisal companis chosen by them. Once you pay the appraisal fee you'll never hear from them.
Use Sedo. If it's legit they'll go through SEDO. If it's not you saved yourself time and money
Good luck
Are there any possible Trademark issues with the domain? If so, your response to the "[a]re you are interested in selling it" question may be looking to build the "bad faith" element under the UDRP. Go forward with caution. If it is an entirely generic domain that has no potential TM issues, by all means, let the guy know you're interested in selling it and start negotiating. Ask for your price and start the bargaining from there. Good luck.

If something sounds to good to be true, it probably is. It sounds like a generic email generate after you registered your domain name. Don't be duped! Give the person your phone number and welcome a call anytime to discuss. If it is for real, they will call. Secondly, if someone wants to buy it that badly that quick, be thankful you picked a great name. Remember, no one loves you on the internet...

I would still get it appraised by a company you choose. What's a few bucks just to know something's value.
Another option to consider would be leasing the domain. Normally this would go for higher-valued domains. But hey, you never know. Let them build a link profile for a domain you own.
Explore every option before selling, especially if you weren't completely decided you wanted to sell it in the first place.

Just ask them to make you an offer explain as they contacted you all expenses and appraisals would be up to them You are not paying any upfront fees & if they do not like this than you will not sell to them.Give your telephone number & ask them to call you.
explain as above on phone & see reaction.Under no circumstances
pay for anything or give them bank account or financial details no matter how good the story. bottom line they pay everything or you are not interesting in selling & you will put on open market.
