Hi all and admin,

Pls. apologies if I have chosen the wrong forum to my post my content issue query.

Actually one of my friend started a website long back but could not get SE ranking as well as pagerank. But in recent PR update, his site got PR1. But still his targeted Keywords not in 100. I checked the websites found many of the pages having more 50% duplicate. So I asked him to change the content and other factors like page titles, meta keywords & descriptions.

But the issue is if he replace or change the content for all the pages, Will there be any problem in terms of Search Engine?

I shall be grateful for any help.

Thanks
Karmick

How is the traffic, inbound links to your friends site? Is it indexed?
I am pretty sure by changing the content..the link/traffic shouldn't change much.

Personally I would rebuild the site..(don't worry about pr1)..if SEO properly, you will be sitting with your friend, remembering when the site was only PR1..

I have read that changing a title of a page already indexed by search engines can get your site flagged sending it to the bottom of the results. I changed the titles of a site once and it got flagged. There was also other reasons that could have gotten the site flagged as well, so I am not totally sure that changing the titles actually had anything to do with getting the site flagged. It is recomended that you submit a sitemap in xml format to the search engines immediately after making such a major change to prevent the site from being flagged.

Without a link you are all shooting in the dark.

Page titles are important, any movement in the serps good or bad, will depend on what they currently are, what they are changed to, how spammy they are, how relevant they are etc.

They need to be relevant and unique to each page, keywords first.

They may or may not be your problem.

The same goes for your original content question. Changing what content to what new content?

You have advised your friend correctly. Use of unique content with relevant and unique meta tags (description, keywords etc) will surely help the pages get indexed by SEs. Good Luck.

Without looking at the site...
Displaying Keyword rich RSS feeds on a page can go a long way towards lowering that duplicate content % if done correctly.

Personally I would rebuild the site..(don't worry about pr1)..if SEO properly......Almost all the pages are indexed but dont think traffic is good there. He has done every basics of marketing for his website but not getting position in SERPs even in 100.

That what I suggested him but he is bit scared of loosing PR.
What if he makes changes the content, page title, meta description, meta keywords of 2 internal pages every month. Still there will be chances of penalizing?

Personally if you are ranking below 100 then you are way out into the boonies and worrying about going any lower is academic. It can only improve chances changing web pages, targeting content.

I suspect you stress way too much importance on PR numbers, Page Rank is a smoke screen and causes confusion. Ignore it. I have a page with a PR of 2/10 yet the page appears in the top ten under several keyword/search terms. Err.....Not as well as 3 weeks ago but then never let graphic a artist re-design a web page...........you plummet faster than bank shares on the stock market.

Anyway, content is most assuredly king as well as page titles and page descriptions. Don't repeat keywords too often (spamming) and ensure all images carry alternative attributes. Any chance of a link to see the site?

When the site I was working on got flagged, I had changed several titles, incuding the homepage title. After the search engine reindexed the site 9 days later, it bounced back, actually improving in the serps from the changes, so it was nothing but a chicken wing. But, I know how clients can be when it comes to losing any serp they currently have for even 1 day.

I have a few newer sites that rank in the top ten with a PR0. PR must have something to do with age. I don't know anybody that doesn't own or work on a website that pays attention to PR. :) If a graphic artist redesigns a webpage, you should have an experienced SEO/web developer incorporate the graphics into the website. Any time a lot of code or graphical elements of any page increases, the text content must be increased to maintain balance.
