Quick question!
Should you add a footer/advertising link to your clients site? Should it be nofollowed?

We always add our clients link om our website. We do this for all our clients and our clients do this in return for us. It shouldn't be no follow as I think it is OK for both ti mutually benefit.

It's only correct if it is followed with a link back to Geeks on Steroids.
It's a new Google rule.

My own personal preference is that with the clients permission, a single link from the "About Page" indicating "Website.com is Designed by..." etc. I just happen to like this approach. You're not adding lots of links to a clients site, the "About Page" is usually viewed often and well linked internally, and more or less fits the page.

As long as you have the client's permission - go for it! While Crankydave likes the "About" page, you might think about the "Contact Us" page, or even the footer (if the client does not mind). Shopping Carts have been putting their names in the footer for years, and few people even notice it.

Just ask the client if they want to. In no way should it be forced on them.

Why not place a brief statement in the original contract? I have done this for years and only once has it been a small problem. My wording is,"A link to RichsWebDesign.com will be present on all pages."
If a client balks at this, then you can simply change it to read,"A link to RichsWebDesign.com will be present on the Contact Us page."
Explain to the client(s), if they ask, that linking is a VERY important aspect of SEO and I always place a link to each of my clients from my own site.

As long as client having no problem with your link on their site, i think this is a common practice to place your link on their site, will provide you a back link. But it depends on client,more generally web designing and development firms used to do such things.........

Do a quick search for 'designed by' and you'll see that this has been going on forever...
It's a common practice and as long as your clients don't have a problem with it, it's your call whether it is included or not. I do think you should have it in the terms of your contract somewhere though, just for giggles should any legal issues ever come up.
Remember one thing when you are in business. Anyone can sue anyone for ANY reason. Valid or not. Your time is money and you don't want to spend it in a courtroom or in a lawyers office.
