View Full Version : an inconventional truth
I like the way that Al Gore presented this idea. The facts stated are a bit terrifying and scary but I don't think that we should blame the I would say Earth's evolution to pollution. I say that health factors, those are the ones affected by pollution but not the earths evolution. I mean, billions or millions of years ago the Earth did went some changes and it will still undergo changes. Nothing that we humans can avoid.

True...did you know that the moon for example, is slowly slipping out of our orbit. Yes, give it another 20 billion years and the moon will break free from earths gravitational pull. But do not worry, because by then the sun will have died out, so we will probably all be dead anyway.
My brother told me that it is thought that the Pacific Ocean, is a hole that used to be the moon. That there is a theory, that a meteor struck the other side of the earth and dislodged a moon shaped lump from the pacific ocean region, leaving a big water filled hole and the moon. The moons orbit spirals slightly, getting 5cm more distant each year. Several thousand years ago, it was closer than it is today and even longer ago, when the moon was still volcanic, it would have appeared as a fiery ball in the sky.
Al Gore is featured quite humourously on South Park.

This is actually the first time I heard about that. The moon thing. Sounds really interesting... And it could have some sense as well. logically.

Well he did do a bit more scare mongering than was necessary . Sometimes to attract attention to a problem you need to do so , so the media focuses on the issue , which exactly he has achieved .
^^I don't think that Al Gore's presentation of facts was a form of scare mongering. He did get some attention but not all are scared of it. Personally, I think that what is happening to our planet is still natural, the Earth evolved thousands of years ago and it still is continuosly evolving

Is you can struggle through it all the way to the end, Carl Sagan Cosmos is good too.
He's also a bit more reliable than "Mr I Invented The Internet" Gore. Peace prize or not.

I found that the first half of the movie is so interesting. However, the other half almost made me asleep.

i remembered i first watched this film at school, in our ecology subject. It was cool actually. He only presented facts that i believed every single person on earth deserves to know. I mean, it's time that we must know the consequences of our negligence and indifference towards the environment in the past, and strive to get involved with the restoration process. i hope more environmental documentaries will be produced and people will be inspired to do something.

The moon coming 'from' the earth is just a theory... the other theory is it formed from rocks and dust which orbited the fledgling earth

And another theory of the moon claims it was formed from a collision between Earth and a mars sized object, possibly mars. Ending Mars' once habitable conditions and knocking both planets into their present orbits.
Any who about Al Gores movie, I am fairly certain as it stands now most of the "facts" presented were actually not facts at all and were actually baseless conclusions and or misguided ideas about actual events.
On a side note, why was this thread revived... 06-08-2009 11:43 PM was the last post before today.
