American Sitcoms

Does anyone else here like American sitcoms? I just love them, my current favourite is King Of Queens. Last year I was really into Eight Simple Rules, but that seems to have finished.

I used to get told Americans had a different sense of humour to English people, till I started watching the sitcoms and they are so great, I quite look forward to getting sick so I can curl up and watch Paramount Comedy 24/7 for a few days, as I am right now, with the flu.

There seems to be loads of great sitcoms from USA.

You can see the difference easily by watching the UK version of the Office vis-a-vis the US version of the show. The premise 'situational comedy in an office setting' applies to both countries, but the humor is still different. I sat through a UK version of the show and didn't find it remotely funny. Some UK humor is funny, but overall it is different.

Last night I passed by the Star Movies Channel and saw this Kings of Queens. It was nice and it did made me laugh... I also saw this Prison Break and now I am searching for its DVD version.... What else would you recommend to watch?

Eight Simple Rules, is great, if you liked King Of Queens you would probably like that too. I wish they would make some more, as I think I have watched all of them.

There is Scrubs too of course, thats very funny.

So you get Star Movies Channel, I dont get that channel here, but when I was in India, that was the channel I watched. They did used to play Eight Simple Rules on Star.

I got quite into this show on Star where this guy interviewed famous people, I think it was called "Tea with Karan" or something. That was good.

I wouldn't call Prison Break much of a 'sitcom' - Rules of Engagement is fairly clever at times.

I never really have much time with T.V. so I guess I should check them all out one weekend. I only watch T.V. for the news and of course, one of my all time favorite cartoon show, The Simpson....

So i was like beginning to discover the interest with t.v. once again and last night I was browsing this MAXXX out channel. They had this show cheaters... anybody seen this before.//

I have seen that, it is quite funny actually, although unintenionally I am sure. Where a man or woman gets caught cheating on their partner and gets sprung by a whole camera crew and confronted with his/her misdeeds.

Its like they have a whole army of private detectives following and spying on the alleged cheater, collecting indisputable evidence and then they wait for an opportune moment, such as when they are out cheating and then stick a TV crew in their face and say....hi...so what have you got to say for yourself..then the aggrieved party shows up for an explanation and the faces are just classic when they realise they have been caught and cant wriggle out of it.

With this TV show in USA, I would imagine noone would dare cheat on their partners, for fear of Joey Greco turning up and putting it all on film!

It was rather amusing right... I saw it again last night and they had a case where it was a man to man relationship and the other man had another man... lol, it was funny... I guess this is whats taking over the t.v world? reality shows. I was really interested and checked out most of them, The Bachelor, Beauty and the Geeks, Big Brother, all sort of those, I just don't know if those are scripted or something. I mean, is it possible to fall in love while acting or while the first objective is to win big money? lol

I like reality TV, like you I am surprised they can start relationships under such circumstances, but they often do, I usually turn over at that point and watch the crime channel.

I have got fed up with Paramount Comedy recently for playing the adverts too loud. Seriously, it is the worst channel for that, I set the volume at a comfy level and when the ads come on, it is about dopuble volume, v.annoying. I still like the shows but its annoying having to keep messing with the volume.

Crime channel is good, but it has started giving me nightmares, I think the Crime Channel, combined with James Herbert books is not a good combination.

I am probably better putting up with PCs ad volume so at least I can get some sleep at night.

There are crime movies sitcoms that do not give nightmares. Like CSI or I am not sure but I think it is numbers? yeah, a math geek solves problems. Well but those are not reality shows I think. You should check out funny dating reality shows like Blind Date or the Fifth wheel. They are amusing...

How odd... I REFUSE to watch shows like "The Simpsons", but I found the old BBC show "Faulty Towers" to be absolutely hilarious! Not many shows make it from the UK to here, "Dr. Who" seems to be their only success of late, but what makes it is good.

If I want to see funny-looking people in embarrasing sexual situations, I don't need sitcoms, I just go to work! (just kidding)

There really are too many good American sitcoms to mention, in my opinion. I loved Cheers when it was the best on tv as well as MASH.

I never much like the Americanised versions of the UK comedies. The change in sense of humour just does not work, and yet I like plenty of American comedies. I just don't think that you should try and turn one into the other.

Scrubs is a brilliant sitcom. I found the Office a bit cringeworthy so I dread to think what i'd make of the US version.

As for UK well Bottom, Coupling (less sophisticated version of Friends), 2 Pints of Lager & a packet of Crisps and Drop the Dead Donkey which haven't been americanised at all.

I can't find much on TV I like anymore but I love 30 Rock, it's definitely one of the smartest comedies on TV in a long time. Finally!
