View Full Version : How do I check for PR penalty?

My site dropped from a PR4 to a PR2 last weekend or thereabouts. I suspect I may have a backlink that Google doesn't like or perhaps something else. Is there a way to contact Google and figure out what the penalty is or perhaps there is a tool out there that I could use to figure out what Google didn't like?

I would be grateful for any advice.

Why do you care about dropping to a PR2 when you rank #1 for "atlanta cosmetic dentist"? Toolbar PR is unreliable. By the way, I would watch the overoptimizing. The meta tags are improperly formed and the html title tag is very bloated. That will get you into trouble before low PR. Competitors like to report that sort of thing.

Dan, you have serious on-page optimization issues. Thought of mentioning that.

Dan are you signed in with Google Webmaster Tools (https://www.google.com/accounts/)?

I hear ya. good point. I am happy with organic results. But a pr penalty is something I am trying to avoid and I am not sure of all the ramifications.

I am having the developer put the code in the site to get verified with google. once I do that, should I resubmit the site for consideration?

If you're coming in first for a targeted phrase, you haven't been excluded, so re-inclusion requests will confuse Google more than likely!

incrediblehelp mentioned webmaster tools for different reasons I would imagine. At least one being that it will give you information an all the links Google has indexed for your site, as they don't show this publicly with the link: operator.
