I currently have have over 40 websites I have designed and am hosting at Hostgator.
My most recent website is Best Waders - Unique Hunting and Fishing Products (http://www.bestwaders.com) , that is being set up for an ecommerce. Its still in progress but the owner of the business is questioning why it is not being found by the search engines.
Monday morning the url was submitted to numerous search engines including google, yahoo and MSN. I also put a link to it on two of my higher volume sites that get crawled daily figuring that it would help this site to get indexed quickly.
I looked at the Awstats on my cpanel and it shows that google, google sitemaps and MSN robots have been to the site. But if I do search at any of the search engines for bestwaders.com it isn't found. Also used google webmasters tools to check it out and it doesn't show any pages being indexed.
One other thing I noticed is that the bandwith used by the bots was very low. google was only 278 bytes, yahoo and msn was 9K.
Any advise would be much appreciated.

It's only been two full days! Every search engine that I know of will take time before the pages begin to show up in the index.
There is good reason for this too. You would be amazed at the number of pages ad entire sites that are here today and gone tomorrow. No need to clutter up an index database with information that is not going to be valid.
My article directory is brand new. As of yesterday, only two pages had been indexed partially and that is just as expected.
For a new site, give it a few months to be fully indexed by all three of the major search engines.
Perform all the standard SEO practices, perform your marketing using best methods, check the status and refine as needed and give it some time.
Getting SERP does not happen in just a few days...

While your waiting to get index it is good idea to make sure you get other relating websites to link to using the keywords you want to rank for. This is really the life blood of how pages are ranked online.

Please forgive me if this sounds rude, but these sort of posts never cease to amaze me. Two day?!? and you're complaining about it not being indexed? Does the client expect millions instantly just because you made him a new website? or did you make that sort of promise? wow, just give it a few more days...

Just because he doesn't know, doesn't mean he can't ask. The purpose of this forum is for those that don't know, to ask questions. That some questions get repeated is not a problem. Just ignore them if they bother you.

Thanks for the input and advice in regards to my question. I didn't expect to have all the pages indexed in a few days and I do realize it takes time to get good results for key words and phrases.
My concern is that after 4 days it still isn't indexed at all even though the bots have been to the site. I have had other sites get indexed in few days.

Well I am still wondering if you have any back links to these NEW websites.

I have to tell my clients over and over: The internet is not instant pudding. If you still aren't indexed within a month, you might think about possibly being concerned. It takes time to turn a large ship and the internet is the largest.
These gihugeous code beasts have a really large territory to scan and then post. Millions of new sites are generated, I am guessing, on about a weekly basis. You are not being singled out. Simply speaking, each website is the tinyest speck in the internet universe. That this stuff gets indexed at all is (to me at least) a continuing miracle of acheivement.
Starting an internet business with realistic expectations is difficult considering the hype out there, but there are two facts to keep in mind:
1) Although an internet business can make the timeline to profit shorter than your average brick and mortar, it still does take time and lots of work to make a successful, profitable web page.
2) The search engines should only ever be a starting point in publicizing your business. If you ever expect to be successful, you need to get yourself seen in lots of different places on the internet: lenses, blogs, podcasts, forums. Which means that a website owner needs to become a participant in the internet.
I recommend you take a look at Seth Godin's newest book, Meatball Sundae. I recommend it to all my clients as a foundational book. It doesn't teach about search engines. It teaches about creating a web-worthy business and leveraging the direction of Web 2.0.
Hope this helps.

Perhaps it is a question of data center updating? Does anybody know if the Google data centers update during leap years? LOL
Give it time dude - If you build it they will index it... eventually.
Oh another reason might be because Google doesn't support the killing and maiming of fish and animals... LOL
Sorry - just gearing up for April Fools Day.
Rather than submitting the link to the engines, it is generally more efficient to link to the new website from a page that you know is already indexed. If you have a web development website, put a link on the main page of your existing website. This usually gets things moving along.
But again, like everyone else has said, give it time.

In my experience, MSN is usually faster at getting a new site indexed and the site is indexed there, if you need to show the client something.

First it shouldn't be your job to get the site indexed (you are the web designer right, not SEO), and second you (and the client) will just have to give it time :)

Sometimes you see your website in results several weeks after beeing crawled. If the bots got there just have patience.
Also make sure you have backlinks on other indexed websites - submitting the website to search engine cues for crawling doesn't help a lot. A backlink from a popular website will get your site indexed much faster.

Thanks to all the input on this.
Ended up taking 5 days to get the home page indexed by google.
