FireFox is new King of Browsers?

Don't know if this is the right area to post in but... have you all noticed from any sites that you run the stats of people using FireFox is started to beat out IE7? I see this often at times when checking my stats on a few of my sites. Is this a trend we will see... will IE8 turn things around? I use both just to check my sites. Firefox is the more stable Browser in my opinion.

I rarely see FireFox in my stats. . the last time I saw a flurry of them was when webmaster forums users visited, after I posted a problem on my site.

From my directory, IE 63% with more or less equal split between IE6 and IE7 while Firefox is 23% which is probably skewed in it's favour because we review/edit with Firefox.

Best I have is 56% for IE and 40% for Firefox, so for my sites IE is still more popular than Firefox.

I rarely see FF beat IE, but if the site is "techie" enough it can happen.

I think that is because you might get a lot of SEO types to your site. I notice on my link building blog and our SEO site, FF is big. But on our sites for the general public, IE still is the big majority.

I can say at the last company I worked out we had a 1% FF rate when I started. I said well because the site does not render in FF. They assumed the low rate was because no one used FF LOL. Well two years later that same company (I still do some stat review) has a FF rate of over 25% and an increase in users of over 50%. While it is not taking over IE, it does show that making sure your site renders in more than IE can have a significant affect on visitor rates.

In my site (Just Free Books (http://justfreebooks.info)) Firefox is used by 33,32% of the users and IE by 61,1%. The most use IE7.

Browser share fluctuates noticeably from day to day, as you'd expect with a modest visitation rate, but the Firefox share currently seems to have stabilized at around 25 percent or so (sometimes more, sometime less, usually ranging between 20 and 30 percent), which is pretty much what Rafael Robinson is seeing.

Also in general accordance with Rafael's figures are the IE6 and IE7 shares. (It's somewhat surprising, but not too much, that IE6 share still exceeds the IE7 share well over a year after IE7 was released.)

Firefox's market share versus IE7 changes for each site.

My own web site about web design has more creative people so in January 2008 (Google Analytics), Firefox had 71% share while IE7 had 15%.

Now, for a real estate client of mine with more companies visiting, Firefox's share in January was 25% compared to 34% for IE7 and 34% for IE6.

I hear that IE8 will be part of an OS upgrade so will replace any IE already installed such as IE6 or IE7.

You will see a difference based on your site content and the type of visitors you would attract.

I have a web design related site that has IE @ 57.62% and FF @ 35.12%.

I then look at a financial site and it has IE @ 86.26% and FF @ 8.47%.

You'd be surprised how many new PC owners don't even know about FF. Whenever I come across that situation I promptly install FF and do my share to make this world a better place :-)

Although IE still is used by the majority, and their new version - with the addition of tabbed browsing, has gone to some length in retaining some of their users. But FF is surely becoming the browser of choice for most. Open source is definitely taking the driving seat!

Most are using IE because it's the default browser since many are using Windows as their O/S..

But as of now Mozilla Firefox is widely use because it is very effective in many Webmasters and SEO...

I have to use both browsers during my work, but I prefer Firefox.

As long as you develop websites that is Ok because of Plugins like FireBug (http://getfirebug.com/)

My personal view. Don't recommend FF to a surfer.

I have not seen any indication that FF have changed their privilege based security model. Am I wrong?

Approximately 15-30% of my clients use FireFox. Now that percentage ranges from domain to domain. But average is about 20% or less.

I never recommended Firefox to anyone. Really I should rephrase what I previously wrote. I can't actually verify which visitors are clients.

About 1/3rd of my clients are webmasters.

The browser stats for WebProWorld.com are as follows:

Firefox - 48.0%
IE - 41.2%
Safari - 6.8%
Opera - 2.1%
Other - 3.5%

Many other iEntry tech and business sites have a much higher Firefox share. My guess is that Firefox users trend younger.

So IE 6 and below are losing market share at least by webmasters.

I use IE 6 myself, so I may contribute to that percentage both as a visitor or a member since I am on a dynamic Ip.

The reason I use IE 6, is that it has the best functionality on URL bookmarking, because it is so unsecure.

One reason that the market share for Opera is most probably underestimated by looking at forum logs is that you for obvious security reasons (http://www.webproworld.com/internet-security-discussion-forum/74987-cisco-2008-annual-security-report-invisible-hacker.html#post407777) have to delete private data when you log into forums like WPW using the Opera browser.

I don't know how representative the first hit on browser statistics (http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=browser+statistics&aq=0&oq=browser+s), the Norwegian site W3Schools Online Web Tutorials (http://www.w3schools.com/) is.

So my private conclusion is:

Opera has a larger market share among surfers / shoppers than among web masters.
