I'm taking an online course for SEO. The instructor states not to have text in a table the same color as the page background even if the table background is different because this will be picked up by the spiders as spamming. For example one of my websites ( Tips for Heat Treaters - Information for the Heat Treatment Industry (http://www.pyemet.com/tipshome.php) )has a white page background but the navigation is in a table aligned to the right whith a red background and white text. I have several websites that have similar situations with text that is the same color as the page background in a table that has a different color from the page background.
Any opinions and experience with this would be appreciated.

I'm 99.99% sure that this won't cause you any problems. White navigation links are very common as navbars are often dark on a white background.

In fact, this forum has a dark green navbar with white links and a white page background.

Yes I agree, there would be a hell of a lot of sites out there in trouble if this was the case. The search engines can probably work out the background colour of the tables anyway.

You won't have any problem with it as long as the text in your contents are all visible.

Just look at your screen, if you can see the link then don't worry about it. Of course don't start using different colors that are so close you can hardly read the link. But normally you don't have to worry.

You won't have any problem as long as the link has not have "nofollow tags"...
