Considering starting a mobile website. Suggestions as to which ones to use. There are all sorts of freebees out there but they all seem to have catches or lack something. Anyone had experiences with any of these? How effective would ecommerce be on .mobi websites? What types of websites would work best on mobile? Is the target audience mainly teens?

Why not just start a Dot Com and have an alternate version for mobile devices?

The market is still not mature enough for .mobi
This is the same for .name and .info and so on, most people could not remember that. Sure, it is something for the near future, however it is still not that near yet.

Is it better to get in now while it is in the infancy? Would a site started now rank better when it takes off? Would it get more hits now because of no compitition and become a standard later on?

If your .com site is correctly designed for xhtml using div's and css you just create a second style sheet link it to the site media="mobile" and mobile browsers will automatically pick up on that and display it how you want for mobile clients.

At the very least, register the .mobi name and hang on to it, especially if you think you'll be using it down the road. Better to grab it now than have someone else grab it before you need it.

Can anyone recommend a mobi development platform that you think works well?
I have looked at sites like ubik.com, mobisitegalore.com, and dev.mobi.
Thanks,
Bob
