Looking for advice on launching affiliate program

I'm not entirely sure if this is the right place to ask as most of the posts I see seem to deal with the other side of the coin, but I am working out details to create an affiliate program for the house plans web site that I work on.

What I'm looking at right now is to keep it very simple. Each affiliate would get a unique ID. The affiliate could then use that ID in links to various parts of the site and when a visitor came to the site through an affiliate link they would be given a 30 day cookie with that affiliate's ID. The affiliate would be wholly responsible for promoting their links to the house plans site and would be paid 10% of any sale which was referred to the site by the affiliate. Our minimum sale is $435.00, so any sale would be significant and we would mail checks monthly with no minimum.

This all said, is there anything you guys might suggest to me and are there any places you would recommend I go to promote this program when it is functional?

Hi Jay,

Welcome - you are in the right place! You need to get some affiliate tracking software set up or get on a network. If you do a network I would recommend Shareasale, if you do in-house software there are several good options. Check my Catalyst site below for some of the best ones and also info on Shareasale.

Then to help promote it you can submit to all the
affiliate directories. 2 of the most popular are refer-it.com and associateprograms.com plus you can find others in Google.

I've also heard that commission junction has a good service that tracks affiliates for you. Good luck! Sounds like a good paying program with a great niche' ;)
