Keyword Analysis

Hey Everyone,
I have a quick question on doing a keyword analysis for a client, in the past I've used the tool at Overture (http://inventory.overture.com/d/searchinventory/suggestion/) to get a good idea on the popularity of keywords, then I had a copy of a proposal from an SEO company that quoted a list of search terms straight from Google that were searched for. Is there any service provided by Google or elsewhere that will give me an exact number of searches in a certain month for a certain word? I've heard there is a similar tool in Adwords, will this do the job? Any advice would be great!

The only tool I know of on Google is in the Adwords, and I assume that data is from Google Search. I mean you can't actually search Google Adwords can you?

You might want to check out the service provided by Wordtracker, http://wordtracker.com

How or where all this data is collected I am none too sure. What I can tell you though is that a lot of it is inflated by automated ranking tools such as WebPositionGold. You will probably come across evidence of this on Overture Suggestions etc where you will occasionally see some extremely bizarre phrases being searched for. So use this data as a guide, but don't take it as gospel.
