Hi, I'm not sure if this is the best place to post this, but I just received notice that my site has been reviewed and "chosen to bear the 2003-2004 Golden Web Award". Is this a big honor, or a big JOKE??? has anyone else heard of the award or been chosen for the award? What does it mean for my site?
Thanks in advance for your feedback.

hi archieb,
well, yes a big joke might be one way you could describe it.
it appears they hand them out like they're going out of style.
And on many of the "Top 10 signs you're site needs an overaul", no doubt these Web Awards will be right up there.
Recommendation:
hit the delete key, and don't place it on your site.
And, personally, I can't believe people still fall for them.

Hi archieb,
the same question (http://www.webproworld.com/viewtopic.php?p=73850#73850) was asked in the Site Design forum, and the responses confirmed exactly what cyanide has suggested above! Just hit the delete button.. before anyone notices! ;o)

Thanks for the response.

BTW, I was never planning on putting it on the website, I was just curious if my hunch that it was a joke was correct.

Is there some 'real' award that people get for popular/worthy sites?

Yes, Professional Industry awards. You will always tell which these ones are. They are usually sponsored partly or wholey by your govt, and other notable patrons. You will also see the calibre of design in the entries is of higher quality.

Are they awards you have to apply for, or what?
The reason I ask is our website is now getting 3.9 million hits a month now, where do I find it listed as becoming more popular or worthy of looking at?
(Obviously I am very biaised)

True award site I know of is www.webaward.org and www.aaf.org/awards/addys.html .
I've been invited for the past two years to be a judge for webaward.org. It's always a blast.
There are a few others, but at the moment I can't remember how to get to them.
I hope this helps.
