My company recently changed its policy regarding credit card transactions so that we no longer allow credit card information to be stored or passed through our shared hosting accounts. If a client wants to conduct online transactions the credit card information must go directly to a payment gateway.
We have one client who when their site was developed insisted on having his customers' credit card information encrypted and stored on the server so he could then manually process the orders so we developed his shopping cart with LiteCommerce, it's AdvancedSecurity module, and GunPG to encrypt the data.
He would rather move to a new web hosting company than change the way he processes credit card orders, so I'm looking for any company that would be willing to install/configure/transfer his shopping cart. My impression is that dispite the security risks he would still prefer to go to a shared hosting acount, but at this point I think it would entertain the option of an inexpensive dedicated server.
