Hello,

How long do you keep your redirect in the htaccess file for? I am in the process of re-directing 75 pages to 50 pages (circa) and I was wondering for how long it should stay with the redirect?

my code for the RDIRECT is

Redirect 301 /oldfile.xyz http://www.domainname.com/newfile.xyz

If you have better solution, let me know. My files don't match the old files (name and url)

regards

Until you don't see them indexed by the search engines. Why worry about how long anyways. it is not hurting anything.

Probably atleast 3 months, but then again it's anyone's guess

Make sure outside linkers update your links as well

Yep take care to inform your link partner to make a change at their end;

it may also depend on how fast google update your backlinks database and crawl these new redirected pages....
