This is really only of interest to anyone living or wanting to live in Thailand. There are two interlocked sites selling a niche product range, (English language books published in Thailand), both in Thailand and outside. (About 95% of sales are outside Thailand).

Business results for last year 2006 were OK. (34 Thai Baht to the US Dollar).

Gross Profit 1,390.000 Baht
Net Profit 559,000 Baht

The web sites are 8 years old. Very little SEO has been done on them. One has PR5 and the other PR6. Seomoz Page Strength ratings are 4.0 and 4.5. Google seems to treat the dot.com site as an authority site and very few outgoing links are on it. The other is a dot.co.th and covers the local market. For all the 500 or so book titles and authors and many general book terms they are in the top 3 of Google positions.

Oh, all the supply is in Thailand. The reason it works is that local publishers find it very hard to get distribution outside Thailand and customers who want any of these titles are virtually forced to buy from our sites or stock up with books when they visit the country. Some of our titles are fairly acedemic so there is a fairly constant demand.

From the very beginning we copied the Amazon model of not really holding much stock so books can come in from the publisher and go out the same day. We were the first to go online with this, pre-dates these web sites by a few years, and do have that early starter benefit.

p.s. An example of the range is that although Angkor Wat is in Cambodia most of the written material about it is published in Thailand.
