For all radixes, the symbols 0 thru (X-1,) where X is the radix of the base system in question, have precisely the same connotation in all radixes greater than X. Thus:

1) Base 1 : Zero (0) = 0 (decimal) in Base 2 and higher;
2) Base 2 : 0 and 1 = 0 and 1 (decimal,) respectively, Base 3 and higher;
3) Base 3 : 0, 1 and 2 = 0, 1 and 2 (decimal,) respectively, Base 4 and higher;
...
10) Base 10 : 0 thru 9 = 0 thru 9, respectively, Base 11 and higher;
...
13) Base 13 : 0 thru 9, A thru D = 0 thru 9, A thru D, respectively, Base 14 and higher;
...
16) Base 16 : 0 thru 9, A thru F = 0 thru 9, A thru F, respectively, Base 17 and higher;
...

1494 - The Ajax, Achilles or Exeter?

Fantastic photos ctabuk.

You might find this of interest:

Sinking of the Graf Spee

Oh there was a jolly ship built in Nazi Germany,
And the name of that ship was the Admiral Graf Spee;
And she looted merchantmen of ev'ery nationality
As she sailed upon the rolling, bowling,
As she sailed upon the rolling sea.

She met three cruisers of the British army,
And to stop them she knew would put Berlin on the spree.
Their commander laughed aloud: 'Now merry game there'll be,
For I'll sink them 'neath the rolling, bowling,
For I'll sink them 'neath the rolling sea.'

She fired her mighty guns, did the Admiral Graf Spee;
Her captain laughed aloud, and hugged himself with glee,
But he swore a hasty oath as the little cruisers three
Came dashing over the rolling, bowling,
Came dashing over the rolling sea.

'To the helm, quick,' he cries, 'and turn face right merrily,
Or our Fuhrer's small moustache we never more may live to see.'
With his tail between his legs, in his ear a lively flea,
He went scurrying through the rolling, bowling,
He went scurrying through the rolling sea.

Yes, the 'bear' he went to cover where his wounds
the world could see,
For the British bulldog bite had hurted painfully,
And the foeman speeding forward knew the fight that he had seen
Would end beneath the rolling, bowling,
Would end beneath the rolling sea.

Yes, and this was the end of the Admiral Graf Spee,
And perhaps it was for this that a pocket ship was she,
For in Davy Jones's pocket, scuttled most ingloriously,
She rusts beneath the rolling, bowling,
She rusts beneath the rolling sea.

A great read indeed.
I cannot comprehend what your father must have seen and felt, or his courage.
Many who participated in and survived WWII are/were most reticent about speaking of their experiences. My father spoke little of it, even with my mother; and, then, only of matters unrelated to the heart of war. It was only shortly before his untimely death that he began to open up to me about the dark side of those times.

His own personal horror happened on D-day. As an MP in the U.S. Army Air Corp., he was assigned to a C47 carrying paratroopers to Normandy. At the time, it was not uncommon for the static line to not disconnect from the parachute, resulting in the jumper being trailed behind the aircraft, being repeatedly slammed into the fuselage until he was a bloody pulp. It was my father's duty that day to cut the poor fellow loose, so as to clear the way for the rest of the group. That the guy was either already dead, or unlikely to survive even had it been possible to retrieve him, did not serve to make his task any easier. That MPs were selected for such job owed to the fact that, as they were billoted separately from the jumpers, there was much less chance of the MP and the jumpers having a personal friendship that might serve to interfere with the necessary swift execution of the hellish task if and when needed.

My father told that story once, and would never again visit it.

how about one more chance... that would make my day

I won`t deny it
I know that I`ve done wrong
But you have to admit it
This love is just too strong
To just fade away into the night
Without putting up a fight
We can make it all alright
If we just give it on more try
So

What must I do to make you want to stay
And take the hurt away
And leave it all to yesterday?
What can i say to make you change your mind?
To have the chance to turn the hands of time
Back to the days when you were mine?
Just give one more chance for one last time

And what can i say to make you change your mind
To have the chance to turn the hands of time
Back to the days when you were mine?
Just give one more chance for one last time.
Just one more kiss to last a lifetime
One more chance for ono last time.

The barracks next to my father's was hit by a v1 the first night he was in England.
How many times I could read Slaughterhouse-Five - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Slaughterhouse-Five) [/quote}
A great read indeed.

I cannot comprehend what 'courage' and 'purpose' mean. Thanks, deepsand and cta-buk.

I almost forgot(as the hairs were rising on th' back of my neck and getting chills) that 1507 is a certain percentage towards our goal.

1510 Possibly very rare - The Illustrious being bombed and nearly destroyed at sea. Taken by my father from the HMS Queen Elizabeth
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y169/ctabuk/ILLUSTRIOUS004Correction.jpg

Early in 1941, she suffered extensive damage and many casualties in a relentless attack by Stuka dive-bombers. After emergency repairs, she managed to escape to the United States where she was refitted and returned to active service in late 1941. After playing a major role in operations off Diego Suarez, Salerno and Sumatra, she supported the US landings at Okinawa. This was to be her final action of the war. After hostilities had ended, she returned to home waters as a training and trials ship before being laid up in 1954 and finally scrapped in 1957.

It's a rational number because it's the ratio of integers.

For 1526, it's

655.307 994 757 536 041 939 711 664 482 306 684 141 546 526 867 627 785 058 977 719 528 178 243 774 574 049 803 407 601 572 739 187 418 086 500

Two in a row! Three?
1,000,000/654.8788474132285

Yes! Equals 1527!!:o:D

1,000,000/1527 may not be a ratio of integers but it is.
Ratios of integers doesn't mean finite/rational
1/3
say x= .9999infinitum
then 10x = 9.999infinitum
10x - x = 9
9x = 9
x = 1
.9999infinitum = 1

Therefore, 1526.999infinitum=1527
There, it, is. It is much easier now that we don't have to always add 1 to the total, we can add .99999infinitum. We have choices.
Sum of infinite series, with a limiting factor, equal that limit.
Perhapd we should just be adding 999,999 + 1/n?

1,000,000/1527 may not be a ratio of integers but it is.
Since both "1000000" & "1527" are integers, "1000000/1527" is a ratio of integers.

Ratios of integers doesn't mean finite/rational
Actually, it does mean just that.

See define:rational number - Google Search (http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&rlz=1T4DMUS_enUS219US219&defl=en&q=define:rational+number&ei=lQ23SfHDNsyatwf8nPG2CQ&sa=X&oi=glossary_definition&ct=title)

Ad hominem, oh, wrong thread.
Yeah, try to convince people, even those that know maths! They go, "no it isn't the same" so I go, "how much different is it from being the same!" and they go,"your shoelace is untied" and I look down and they punch me in the mouth and I go,"see!!! that was .9999 of punch! No diff!" and then I steal the batterries out of their calculators after.

I am slipping. Of course ratio of integers is rational. I was thinking that 1 over 3 was .333 with a line over top, but multiply that by 3 and = .999 repatend wheras I demonstrated that ..Owe, phu*c*k My anurism, geesas that fd*u*** hurts.

The old man wrote to his son about it, and received this reply, "For HEAVENS SAKE, don't dig up that garden, that's where I buried the GUNS!!!!!"

At 4 A.M. the next morning, a dozen British soldiers showed up and dug up the entire garden, but didn't find any guns.

Confused, the man wrote to his son telling him what happened and asking him what to do next.

So, this woodpecker has to fly from here to another big city for an important meeting the next day. He leaves late afternoon and arrives late, in very stormy weather. All the rooms are taken so he decides to make his own accomodation.
He finds a suitable tree. Just as he makes his first strike, a bolt of lightening strikes the tree and splits it in half. Sitting there, he remarks to himself, "It always amazes me how hard your pecker gets when you are away from home"

1615 - Ctabuk, I regret to inform you that a winter storm resulting in near zero visibility, freezing rain and 10-20 cm of snow caused errant power outages last night.

Fearing the worst, I reported your pecker missing and regrettably, after an exhaustive search, the Mounties found him dead from exposure.

Apparently, he'd lost his map, became disoriented and froze solid while hitchhiking on the TransCanada highway West of Kenora.

Please accept my heartfelt condolences in this time of grief. While I share in your sadness, due to trade restrictions on wild game, I am unable to return his remains to you.

I await your instructions.

He was brilliant at maths, he did a little dance as he did his equations - he called it his 'log o rythms'.

I'll miss my pecker. I'm off now to sob a little and kick the cat, well, we don't own a cat, but our neighbours do.

Oh woe is me sob sob sob

Your pecker was found, luckily, because it was in a very shrivelled state due to the cold. Even the keg of St. Peter's Cream Stout that he was found in couldn't keep him warm.
Happy, yes. The coroner reports that is was a joyous, non-suffering demise.

That pecker got inside everything good.

And now, I think it only proper to dedicate a number to that maniac:

Dear Mr. C. Tabuk,

We are pleased to advise you that your pecker is in fact alive and well.

Owing to the fact that all peckers are, when shriveled up, pretty much indistinguishable from another, and the fact the the one found dead in Canada was missing its RFID chip, made identification most difficult, and, in this instance, quite incorrect.

Our satellites have now confirmed that a pecker bearing RFID chip no. 1618, registered in your name, has been located in the Appalachian mountains; specifically, on top of Shriner Mountain, in the eastern tip of Centre County, Pennsylvania, roughly mid-way between the Stover & Rebersburg Gaps. As this is an area greatly favored by peckers, and, owing to the fact that yours has been dallying there for some time now, leads us to conclude that he is busily & happily engaged to doing what comes naturally for peckers.

We deeply & sincerely apologize for the unnecessary anguish caused by our earlier notice, based on said faulty identification, that your pecker was deceased, and hope that you will forgive us for such, and continue to allow us to provide you with the worlds premier pecker tracking service.

Sincerely,

Ms. ***** Galore, Director

Mr Exec thinks of buying her and her family and deporting them.

She says again, "T G I F ! "

He fantasizes about foreclosing on her mortgage and pictures her in rags with fat ankles. He sighs and says 'SHIT.'

Now she gets pissed at the sick in the mud, says again, TGIF, honey!

He says S!H!I!T!

She gets flummoxed and chips a nail, now she is going to tune his ass in.

She looks at him and sqwawks at his pathetic inability to be nice for one elevator ride, plus he is obviously much too stupid to get it, so she SQWAWKS, ahem, "Thank Goodness It's Friday".

He reminds her, "Sure Honey It's Thursday"

Sir, "sir" is a subservient word surviving from the surly days of old Serbia, when certain serfs, too ignorant to remember their lords' names, yet too servile to blaspheme them, circumvented the situation by surrogating the word "sir," by which I now belatedly address a certain senior cirriped, who correctly surmised that I was syrupy enough to say "sir" after every word I said, Sir.
