still young am 22 and she is 23, known each other for about 10 years now..
Ah, to be your age and know what I now know.
I'm guessing that this is the first time that your heart's been truly broken, that you've therefore no experience by which to know that this hurt will pass, that you'll love again, and, most likely, hurt again, that it is exceedingly rare that ones first love survives for a lifetime, that this is part of the human condition we all endure. And, without fear of contradiction, I can say that these words are of but a very small modicum of comfort at this moment.
While it takes two to make a relationship work, it takes but one to make it fail; that one need not be yourself.
Do try to take heart, though, in the certain knowledge that you will love again, perhaps many times, that each such time will make you a better person for having had the experience and the memories of such. Word of caution, though - take care to nourish memories of the good times; do not dwell on those of the bad.
In the mean, in light of your signature line, have you considered taking a job on a cruise ship? Or, even on a tramp freighter? Despite my age, that's still on my list of things to do. :D
3250
yeah, I mean I lost count of all the movies I have seen that is focused on that theme...
anyways, sooner or later, someone else will come along... until then...
3251
Until then, mate...

Never know, Jabo. I'm out of the service now, so it's less likely, but if an opportunity presents itself, I'll probably jump at it.
Funny thing is, I was offered a permanent position there, after my last stint with the Philippine Navy, but turned it down. They wanted me to fight on the side that, at the time, I saw as the wrong side. Today, my opinion would probably be different.
But I doubt they're hiring a lot of old soldiers these days.

You do, of course, mean demotion.
Nope - Master's mate (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Master%27s_mate)s were paid more than any other rating and were the only ratings allowed to command any sort of vessel.
deepsand
09-17-2009, 05:47 PM
3270
Nope; that's still an enlisted grade, or, depending on the usage, warrant officer, both of which are below line officer grades.
And, only Line Officers have the authority to command any naval station or ships of the line.
BTW, pay grade is not an indicator of command rank. For example, a USNA Midshipman is a commissioned Junior Officer of the Line, with a gross pay well below that of many Enlisted personnel; after deductions for room, board, uniforms, etal., the net is close to zero.
Uncle Dog
09-17-2009, 05:51 PM
3271 - but I'm living in the past. "it became common for midshipman waiting to pass the examination for lieutenant or waiting for promotion to become master's mates. This entitled them to an increase in pay from £2 15s to £3 16s". That's a promotion in my book.

3297.
Jabo, the loss of a love is always hard. However, sometimes it is a blessing in disguise. Like when I met a woman I'd been out with years ago and found out that she had not worn very well to say the least.
And when like (this was in my mid 20s) I found out that my then girlfriend already had one. A girlfriend, that was.
These things happen. It gets better, but as you suspect, it can take time.
3298
Very true, Martin.
Reminds me of a buddy of mine, in the Navy. We came back off a cruise overseas, and arrived two days early. He decided to surprise his wife, which he did, as well as himself.
'Twas not a good day for him.
He found her in bed with someone else.
It was a woman...
the woman happened to be his sister!
Poor guy spent months with the shrinks, trying to get sorted out.
Taught me to always remember that no matter how bad things seemed to be going for me...some other poor schmuck had it worse!

It's been my experience that, until such time as they are sufficiently matured to the point where you can deal with them on an adult-to-adult basis, rather than as parent-to-child, it's best to know no more than is absolutely necessary about their lives away from you.
Prior to such time, should you not keep your distance, not only will you be continually disturbed by what you see to be bad decisions, they in turn are likely to view your attempts at giving advice and assistance as being efforts to control them.
It's all such a delicate balance.

I have on many occasions told my boys that they should do what their father did and not have children.
My father never had children, I consider this to be his greatest gift to me.
My mother did have Children (lots of them) . . But unfortunately she was a little bit nuts.
I myself was a beautifull child and I have never fully understood why the photo's were destroyed. .

3329
Well....
First, if the wife is wanting to use cloth diapers, you could get them a gift certificate for a couple of weeks of diaper service. If not, get a couple of giant packages of newborn size, Pampers. There are also usually packages available in the gift shops that will contain a blanket, pajamas, lotion, powder, for either girls or boys.
There are a lot of expenses involved in a newborn, which is why things like this can be helpful.

Being on a Greek island here is a Greek joke to amuse you.....I hope
Three Greeks, Costa, George and Niko as well as three Turks, Melik, Alican
and Bora are travelling by train to a conference. At the station, the Turks
each buy one ticket and watch as the Greeks buy only a single ticket. "How
are three people going to travel on only one ticket?" asks Melik. "Watch and
you'll see," answers Costa. They all board the train. The Turks take their
respective seats but all three Greeks cram into a restroom and close the
door behind them.
Shortly after the train has departed, the conductor comes around collecting
tickets. He knocks on the restroom door and says, "Ticket, please." The door
opens just a crack and a single arm emerges with a ticket in hand. The
conductor takes it and moves on.
The Turks saw this and agreed it was quite a clever idea. So after the
conference, the Turks decide to copy the Greeks on the return trip and save
some money (being clever with money, and all that). When they get to the
station, they buy a single ticket for the return trip. To their
astonishment, the Greeks don't buy a ticket at all. "How are you going to
travel without a ticket?" says Alican. "Watch and you'll see," answers Niko.
When they board the train the 3 Turks cram into a restroom and the 3 Greeks
cram into another one nearby. The train departs. Shortly afterward, one of
the Greeks leaves his restroom and walks over to the restroom where the
Turks are hiding. He knocks on the door and says, "Ticket, please."

3373 PRIME
I only first became aware of the problem during the time when some, but not all, alerts were being received. While I did then begin to check my CP as time allowed, the time frame used for displaying new activity there is much too short. such that I was still missing activity. I then tried, as best I could, to review my entire subscription list.
As for today's barrage, all bear today's date, with times that span a mere 3 minutes, so that many of those with later times are actually for activity that predates an alert with an earlier time/date stamp.
Fortunately my e-mail service indexes all messages by the contents of, among many others things, the Subject line, and provides a corresponding Search function. So, I am able to search the "WPW/Alert" folder for all messages ccontaining, for example, "New Game" in the Subject field, which places the results in a temporary "Search" folder. I then open the one with the latest Time/Date stamp, click on the link contained therein, and see if the "last post" displayed is earlier or later than the last Alert received for said Subject before the barrage of stale alerts.
It's slow, but still faster than drilling into the Headers for the Message-ID Time/Date.

That's odd, because mine all came in with the date/time spread out since the outage yesterday, until shortly after I PM'd rah this morning, and he immediately fixed it. I just deleted forty or so, because I pretty much live in my CP, monitoring subscribed threads, and knew that I hadn't missed anything. I did have to check my PMs to see if I had missed any, but apparently, the popup was working okay.

Depends on your e-mail service provider/client.
Mine displays the Date/Time Received, which I personally find to be much more useful than when sent, as I can always tell, regardless of whether a message is marked Read or Un-read, which is the newest from my perspective.

That explains it. I use Windows LiveMail on my laptop, and it allows me to see both time sent and time received. The backlogged email notices were logged as sent at the time they were supposed to be sent. The last one I received was on the 22nd, at 1026, until 0557 this morning. Then I got a swarm of 66 of 'em!

I have used Outlook Express for years, mostly because I detest Outlook. About a year ago or so, I changed over to WLM, because it allows me to import traffic from all my different email servers, (23 active, 16 more that I just monitor). and I can move them into folders on my HD. I honestly like the way it works for me, and it's been problem-free.
The fact that it's free is just a plus, but not the driving factor. If there's something I don't like about it, it's the filtering (or rather, almost a total LACK of filtering) capability. But I have other programs that handle that, so it's not an issue.
A few years ago, I tried Eudora, but just didn't like it. Plus, it didn't allow me to do as many different types of emails as I need to do. Same problem with Outlook...POP3 or IMAP, but not both.

I've found the limits on the no. of filters provided by MS e-mail apps. to be unacceptably small.
USA.net's service affords me up to 256 filters, with each filter being up to 5 levels deep, each testing by Subject/Sender/To/CC/To and CC, Body, Mail Type, Mail Received between Times, Mail Priority, or Mail Size.
I presently have 242 filters on 1 of my two primary accounts with them; the other, 118.
It's a professional grade service, one that I've used since 2000, with no reason to ever look elsewhere.
And, the support, though needed most infrequently, is superb; 24/7 from, of all places, Iceland!

A young Chinese couple gets married. She's a virgin. Truth be told,

she cowers naked under the sheets as her husband undresses in the darkness.
He climbs into bed next to her and tries to be reassuring.

A thoughtful silence follows and he waits patiently (and eagerly)
for her request. She eventually shyly whispers back, 'I want to try

More thoughtful silence, this time from him. Eventually, in a
puzzled tone he asks her....

Well, at least you got to just the buying part; I had to play the role of seller.
My ex was a collectibles dealer, so I had the privilege of loading inventory, display case & tables, etal. into the van, unloading it and setting it up on-site at mall shows and 1 to 3 day flea markets, spelling her while she took breaks, trying to keep from being bored to death, packing it all up at end of show, and then unload & store in the garage.
And, I didn't even get to drive the van, 'cause it was titled in her name. (Guess who paid for it; hint - it wasn't her.) :(
Then, there was the fun time of trying to do our tax returns, given her superb record keeping.
The best part when I was occasionally able to identify a glassware pattern that stumped her; pissed her off to no end. I'd tell her that the obvious solution to that issue was to disengage my services, which only pissed her off more.
Of course, my income was ours, while hers remained hers. :(

It's hit or miss; no consistent pattern. Even the delivery times show great variability.
Have you checked to make sure your spam filter hasn't reset to default or something? Is WPW on your whitelist?
USA.net doesn't block delivery of anything based on content, but merely flags and routes to the spam folder, which I religiously check for false postives, and report to them via their built in function. The only way that any e-mails from ientry would be blocked is if they're using a proxy server with open or insecure ports, such that they've earned a place on the BrightMail Blacklist.

I once had a perfectly good office in the smaller upstairs bedroom; a bit cramped, but it worked for me, and had a comfy feel. Everything was within easy reach; and, I had a nice sofa, swivel lounge chair, and floor lamp, all of which provided for a variety of comfortable, well lit places for reading, as well as a coffee table.
One day I arrived home to find that the ex has swapped our bedroom and my office; ostensibly, so that I'd have more work space. And, gone were the coffee table, sofa, chair, and floor lamp, for the reason that she "didn't like them." This from the woman who liked them well enough to buy them without consulting me!
So, I ended up with a whole lot of empty space, and no good place for reading or napping.
So, Doc, if you want to keep your cubbyhole as is, you'd best plan on living there 24/7. :D
3417
For the most part, I do! I come out for meals, the occasional head call, to carry out some menial task, like killing a gargantuan "monster spider" of .05 mg, or to refill my ice bucket. Other than that, I'm easy to find, and hard to pry free.
Not that it's a long term solution, I understand. I'm on borrowed time, just like the rest of the happily married men in the world.
My wife asked me one day if I would remarry if she died before me. (One of those "can't win" questions, like "does this make my butt look big?"
I told her no friggin' way!
If I ever had to face that choice again, I think I'd start batting for the other side. Guys have GOT to be easier to figure out than women!
That bought me two days of silent treatment, so it wasn't a total loss.

G'nite, 3D. See ya tomorrow!
Hello too sir,What question? the Luzon one? Yes I'm from Manila. From, but not in, correct? You had told me that you were in Indonesia.
@ Doc, yep 'am fine as well the whole family.
Just cleaned the house the whole weekend.
Glad to hear that! When you said devastation, I thought perhaps you were referring to the flooding in Indonesia.

Is confusion by design intended?

It comes as no surprise to me that a women should plead to be incapable of answering the question.
The question now becomes, of the two possible reasons for such, which is the case.

I don't think we need to waste a lot of time wondering about which possibility applies. The lovely young lady, wicked though she may be, and as devious as she doubtlessly is...
is, above all, a woman!
And therefore, she is to be approached with caution, treated with trepidation, and given the credibility one would give a politician.
They ARE from Venus, you know! ;)

Never the less, I feel it prudent to allow for the possibility that they are naturally truly so confused as to fail to recognize the wholly illogical manner in which they frequently act, lest I be taken to task for attempting to hold one responsible for that which they are genetically predisposed to do.

If women act illogically, there's always reason to that, which sometimes men, fail to understand.

Actually, I think that there are both, with very similar symptoms, thus making for a difficult diagnosis.

Glad to see you admit that women sometimes act illogically, Goddess. But it's not just those actions that men can't understand....it's basically everything ABOUT women that we can't understand.

Yes, it's a mix of both. I'm sitting in an almost zombie like state with loads of writing too be completed but no progress. Simply staring at a blank word document & the only thing that's keeping me from falling asleep is watching Liverpool loose :). At this moment it's a perfect mix between laziness, writers block, and disorientation regarding deadlines. Who made them, & why :)

I don't think that idea of women on subs is a bad one, but it'll have to be approached with a lot of forethought and planning, for it to be pulled off well.

Can work; might work, but only if very carefully planned and monitored.
Works well enough on land, where each has his/her own space to retreat to as needed. As such space decreases, potential for problems increase, no matter the gender.
USNA still hasn't reached the point where works as well as do co-ed civilian schools, owing to the great amount of time all are confined to Bancroft Hall, particularly for Plebes, who are essentially confined to base.
At sea, the amount of neutral space is dramatically decreased. Carriers obviously have the most; subs, the least. Additionally, it's not nearly so easy to evacuate one from a sub as it is a surface vessel, should the need arise.

thanks, but a lot of my fellow countrymen are not ok, some are still struggling to recover from it. even some of my relatives got hit in Marikina, one of the places where conditions were worst... they had to stay at their rooftop for 3 days with out food and only wet clothes. all of their belongings are either broken or gone... we will be visiting them tomorrow or the next day to help out... been watching the news for the incoming storm and we hope that it wouldn't be as strong and devastating as the last one..

I had hoped that Ketsana wouldn't be as strong as Ondoy. Seems from the news that it may be worse. Marikina...isn't that near Manila? Be careful. Now is not a good time to be on the road. I read that a lot of the major roads around Antipolo and Teresa were blocked by landslides. I imagine that's happening in a lot of areas, with one storm right after another.

I checked it out, and was able to post a test comment, using my Google profile (but I was already signed into Google) When I use that dropdown menu to select one of the other profiles, like AIM or OpenID, it prompts me for a username.
SO....were you signed into Google? If not, did it prompt you for an ID? Did you try any of the other profiles, to see if THEY prompt you for an ID? Are you a registered member of any subversive political party?

1st attempt simply refreshed screen with elements re-ordered; entered new CAPTCHA string.

Answered "yes," and was greeted with the following :
