With Hurricane Bill now well north of here, the cold front that was stalled to the West, yielding an unrelenting blast of hot air from the Southwest, has passed through. Some nicely violent thunderstorms provided for good night lightning displays Fri. & Sat..
Cool enough last night for a decent night's sleep for the 1st time in a week. (AC's on the fritz; compressor, etal. works fine, but there's a problem with an inaccessible plenum fan control switch. :( )

As far as I'm concerned, Glenfiddich and The Glenlivet are the only two out there for me (at least, within my price range.)
However, my birthday is far enough away, that if any of you would care to gift me a bottle of Octomore or Macallan, you've got time to save up. ;)

For over two years I've watched this game go on, and you know, I don't think I've ever posted here. Guess I must have thought it to be way over my head, or something, and discounted it. Well now I realize that it is and always has been sheer folly, so I'm going to throw in with my lot.
Now David made a suggestion a long ways back that multiple numbers was okay, so just to make up for having missed the past 26 months worth of postings, I'll plop them all in right here:

I have a friend with Raynauds. He went through several different medications before a new doctor put him on something new that has worked well for him on two fronts. Not today; the balance will have to wait for another day.
Nasal congestion, owing to chronic sinusitis, leads to a condition called exertion asthma under warm, humid conditions, requiring that mowing a mere 3500 sq. ft. be done in several sessions, generally 4-5, with prolonged intervening recovery periods equal to 1-2 times the amount of time spent mowing. :(

2936 - Just seems like I posted a number a little while ago.
3 x 11 x 89 = 2937
We're in the Tijuana area, just south of San Diego. Such storms nearly always break up significantly before reaching us, but even just heavy rains can play havoc here, with a drainage system that defies definition!
The biggest concern is if Jimena jumps the peninsula into the Sea of Cortez. Historically, that allows the storm to continue to grow in strength, while it's funneled all the way up into Arizona, wreaking a LOT of destruction of all the small villages and communities on both coasts of the sea. We're back about 300 meters from the Pacific coast (we used to be about 20 meters, but I built this about six years ago, to get further back), and nearly sixty feet higher. Drainage isn't an issue for me, but our community has only one land route in and out, and it ALWAYS floods, even in a moderate rain.
Makes life interesting, but it goes with the territory. ;)

Perusing the coding of an existing application; or, learning as new language?
BTW, what's your weather like vis-a-vis the hurricane?
Trying to continue my learning curve on php and css, and brushing up on my html. I've been trying reworking my BIL's site, adding a bunch of new products, and generally reconfiguring it.
Looks as though we may not even get any rain out of Jimena. It's downgraded quite a bit, and may soon kick out into the Pacific.

I've never even seen any algol. And it's been years since I played with LISP.
Used to do quite a lot of FORTRAN and COBOL, when I was in the Navy.

I logged more than a few hours on a 360. My next to last duty station was CinCLantFlt/COSL.
My boss was a O-6 that didn't see anything strange about directing a brand new Ensign to develop a program for a pet project, even though my background was engineering.
Learned a lot, though.
Cussed a lot in the process, too. I think I wore out two keypunch machines all by myself!

And think of the stuff they were doing with 4 bit registers! (referring to ARCHAIC languages)

026s or 029s?
My all-time favorite machine is the IBM 1401; military loved it too. Still got a complete source deck for 2-Tape Autocoder; now all I need is the machine. :D

Whew; good thing 2991 isn't prime, or else I'd be kicking myself. ;)
Hiya, Martin. I'd begun to think you were put out with us, 'cause you didn't drop by! :D
I don't remember if they were 026 or 029, DS. I'd have to look them up and see if they look familiar to me. I just remember that I ended up with about 5300 cards in the program, and my database was six or seven boxes!
A part of my Navy career I'm quite content to have left behind me! If I'd had any idea what I was letting myself in for, I'd never have gone LDO!

026 - Round, button style keys
029 - Square ones, like those on a Selectric typewriter

But, think of all the fun you would have missed. :D
Not to mention the practical experience that you gained, experience which may otherwise have been missed, or accrued more slowly.

You know, last night Jupiter had a few fewer moons facing us, or something. Darn clouds kept us from seeing anything. Anybody get in on the action?

Yep; they and the 024s were a PITA. Still, they beat the hell out of the earlier manual punches.
I learned to type on a manual typewriter. And, despite my dislike for it, I actually got to be so good on the 026 that, when I had to switch to the 029, I sucked! :( And, since the 029 keyboard was essentially that of a Selectric, I didn't do any better on a 1620.
To this day, I'm still not truly proficient on a keyboard. I can frequently be found using the "Columbus" method - search for a key and land on it. ;)
