deepsand
08-09-2009, 11:51 PM
Agreed; but, a 50% increase when the economy is in the tank?

We've come up with 2 possible explanations, but they're speculative.

1) Paterno is now on a yearly contract, renewable at his option. Given his age and recent health problems, it may be that many do not want to miss seeing him in what may be his final season as head coach.

2) With the ecomony forcing many to forego their customary summer vacations, many have turned to less expensive sources of entertainment closer to home. Perhaps, for some, a PSU football game serves as such. (Oddly, though, the number of at-a-distance customers, particularly from west of the Mississippi and the deep South is up as well.)

While PSU does have the world's largest dues paying alumni association, it should be noted that such do not make up the majority of our customer base.

Doc

Both probably have some truth in them, but for a 50% upswing, there's got to be something else.

deepsand
08-10-2009, 01:38 AM
I concur.

The only other thing that comes to mind is that, based on their being disappointed at having little to no luck on the public ticket sales on Ticketmaster over the past several years (only junk for "minor" games to be had there,) many decided to not waste their time trying that, and decided to get what they wanted while there was still a good assortment available.

With total sales to date now over 50% of last year's total, we're just hoping that sales for the rest of the season don't take a nose dive.

Didn't get to supper before 0100, again; no surprise there. Gonna throw together some mackerel salad sandwiches, and grab a bag of Good's potato chips. :D

Hell, Doc! Spider bites are painful. My wife had one. Didn't get infected, thankfully.

One of the worst bites I have had (so far) was from a moth. It had gone to sleep in my jacket, so when I put it on, it woke up, panicked and gave me a painful bite on my back! There was a massive lump. I let the moth go out of the house. After all, it was all a dreadful misunderstanding! ;)

With my Laotian neighbors, it's quite evident who's in charge. No matter the weather, or the company, social gatherings are very much segregated by gender; women inside the house, men outside. On such occasions, food is prepared outside by the men; when the women want food or drink, they yell out the door for the men to bring it to them. :(

There are many societies in which the home is very much the woman's domain, regardless of whether they are patriarchal or matriarchal.

Such is very well in keeping with the principle that authority and responsibility go hand in hand. And, as women have historically been responsible for home keeping, it should come as no surprise that men defer to their authority within its walls.

David never intended that we should complete this task.

This was his version of Cheers, the place where everyone knows your name, and they're glad you came. This is the place where one can rub the sleep from their eyes, see who's survived the night - or, now, who has not - and, with all accounted for, know that all's well. No special skills, knowledge or expertise required, not even the ability to read & add; just drag your ass in and grunt, if that's all you're up to at the moment.

That was what David was thinking when he started this thread. :D
