List of search engines - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_search_engines)

second of all, no one submits to search engines anymore. just place a sitemap (http://sitemaps.org/index.php) and submit that instead.

Hello,
I hope this isn't a dumb question - my site has a sitemap.xml file, whic is picked up properly by Google and Yahoo, but the pages indexed in Ask.com are from circa 2001.

Is there a recommended way to ping the minor search engines, get their crawlers to swing by?

Thanks in advance!

If you click the first link in my signature, you find additional lists at the right edge of the following two sites:

SurfToolbar

and

BrowseToolbar

The thread starter asked about SE lists. Why GigaBlast? If you did the following:

Clicked on the first link in my signature.
Then on: BrowseToolbar.
Then on: MultiFinanceIT.com links on: Search and search related topics (http://multifinanceit.com/search.htm) (last link in the right column, just above the picture of "FosseKallen" - the bird).
Scrolled down to
- SearchEngineLists
- SearchEngines
- Top20search
you will note that I have not rated GigaBlast among the top20 SE's. Did you mean submitting to the GigaBlast directory? But you find GigaBlast in the "SearchEngines" category. Also note the category, "SearchEngineLists." There is also a sticky post related to this at WPW LIST: High Ranking Directories and Inidces (http://www.webproworld.com/search-engine-optimization-forum/12730-list-high-ranking-directories-indices.html).Alternatively to scrolling down, you could have used Page Search (Alt + F) + KW.

There is no lack of information on the internet. The problem is to find the right one.

And that is correct.

If you are in the submitting industry, submit to at least dmoz (http://www.webproworld.com/search-engine-optimization-forum/38234-dmoz-some-facts-fictions.html) and the Yahoo directory. Those two are the most important.

Note the last post in the dmoz thread:

"Whatever you do...dont sign up for one of the auto submit sites to get you into DMOZ...if you do.. cbp will make it his life duty to ban your site from ever getting in....not that you really need dmoz...just a matter of time and Google will either buy it or drop it..."

If you are more intested in specific SEO topics, article directories etc. you find more information on another of my sites in the first link, AdSchoolWorld. Since you should learn to navigate that linkfarm, I leave it as a task for you to find the information.

I have found that many of the submit site lists are out of date, and the submit services / tools are useless, here is a list I have compiled on my blog Search Engine Optimization - » Search engine submit locations (http://www.seowebsiteadvice.com/search-engine-submit-locations/) (its not complete, Im always adding to it)

Read this thread:

http://www.webproworld.com/search-engine-optimization-forum/55704-big-3-search-engines-team-up-sitemaps.html

You can add the sitemap link to your robots.txt file and they will crawl this file:

is it possible to pass your site in SE's all at the same time?

I think that is history. The most important SE's find you site.
