Is anyone optimising and submitting their products for Google Product Search?

From reading www.oneboxer.com to achieve results is quite easy as not many people are optimising compared to SERPs.

My question is

How/When does Google decide to show results for Product Search? How does it decide that you are actually searching for a product and feature it at the top of the page?

If I do a search for "miter saw 12" it returns with product search results at the top of the page. If I do a search for "Samsung TV" it just returns normal search results.

Easy. Use Google Base.

Anyone using oneboxer... good one, Jaan. Seems like people quit calling it onebox in many of the areas I frequent and added the er... I must be good at branding.

To answer the original question, Google has stated it is algorithmic. The more specific the query is, the more likely a onebox result will show up. Searching for a specific model yields the best chance of something showing (tail terms), where something generic like samsung tv, which doesn't show what you're really wanting (20", 32", 60", etc.) is less likely to show a result.

This algorithm is constantly evolving, too. It appears that onebox results are showing more often lately, and once product search gets rolled into universal search we won't be discussing onebox much at all any more.

With the addition of the toolbar choice at the top of each Google SERP, optimizing for images, video, etc is even more important.

"Searching for a specific model yields the best chance of something showing"

I thought as much.

Im struggling to realise how it can benefit us as we dont sell branded products. We sell fashion necklaces, fashion bracelets rather than selling say for example Cartier (model name) wrist watch.

Watch for changes over the next 6 - 12 months... I feel like it'll change in a hurry as Google collects more data about what product searches really are.

If someone offers products internationally - do they need to submit them to product search at google.com AND google.co.uk AND all the other googles?

If a product is offered through google checkout - is there not an easy way to add the product to google product search? (there isn't as far as I can see.. or maybe I need stronger glasses yet again..).

Submitting to one will get you in all of them.

Submit your products to Google Base.

Looks like it only lets you specify your products as being 'google checkout' products if you do a bulk upload (I suppose I should look into doing this).

Has anyone else had any good/bad experience with google products / google base?

FYI Google Base is NO MORE ;)

it's now called GPS (Google Product Search)

Brian Mark wrote the book on Base / froogle / GPS / ONEBOX hence his The OneBoxer - Optimizing for Google Onebox (http://www.oneboxer.com) site...

We are launching our beta program very soon... (still waiting on attorney's to finish up with some contracts) if you don't feel like waiting... just do a feed and start testing... there are sooooooooo many different options that can be put into the feeds it's not even funny!

Speaking of funny Jaan :) anyone using oneboxer? LOL :P I am it's great... and I not only work for the brain... I'm also a very happy customer :)

Brian has shared some great tips over there on oneboxer.com as to quick ways to get Google to start showing onebox results.

Test... tweak... test... tweak... and then repeat ;)

We have a quick turnover of products on our site and therefore at the moment we dont have time to edit each product with a nice description leaving just the picture and price to sell the product.

I want to know is it worth while us submitting to Google Product Base automatically with just the following information

Title - Being the product catagory that we put it into our database ie. Wholesale Fashion Necklaces
Price - Price of the product

Would it be useless without some descriptive text?

What would be your minimum requirements for submission Neo?

Also in regards your beta program I have seen on your oneboxer site you will be running tests on selected sites. Will we all be able to watch and see the results of what your program will be doing through the oneboxer site?
