My site www.usalug.org has a PR of 5. It's been that way for ALONG time. It never seems to go up, even though the inbound links have been climbing in numbers.
I'm not complaining, because the site gets #1 search placement on many searches, but it just seems odd that the PR is only 5.... and hasn't moved in months....
Is there anything I should do that I could do to increase the PR of this site?

PageRank is logrithmic - thus getting to PR4 is easier than getting to PR5, and PR6 is even more difficult.
Also PageRank is a function of all indexed pages thus as Google continues to index more the value associated with any single link will almost always deprecate.
Notwithstanding the increase will occur "eventually" and likely will occur faster if you don't think about it.
I would be willing to bet that PR6 will appear faster if you work on getting links than if you just forget about it.

You appear only to have 45 links to your site in Google:-
http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&q=link:7v00r04LmiEJ:www.usalug.org/
which is a little surprising as you have over 18000 sites that contain your URL:-
http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&q=%22%2Bwww.usalug.org/%22
Google doesn't seem to want to count Messageboards as links and if you can get links from sites that have a PR of 5+ then that will help. Good luck.

Hmmmm is there a way to search out related sites that have a pr6 or above with google? IE: how can I search out pr6+ sites from the rest ?? Excluding all other search results??
Thanks for the help.

The obvious way is to search on your keywords and look in the SERPs for high PR sites. Of course you need the Google toolbar installed to see these.
But I wouldn't worry about it. PR is not the only thing that gets your ranked in the index. In fact it may play a very minor part. Relevance is what gets you ranked and that is measured from your anchor text and since Florida possibly by a whole bunch of other things.
And what nobody is telling you is that there are two factors in PR one is the PR of the page that links to you. But the other is how many links are on that page. In very simple terms the PR value that a page transfers is its own PR divided by the total number of out going links. So a PR6 page with a 100 outgoing links may pass less value to you than a PR3 with only 3 or 4 outgoing links.

Thanks Mel! Rephrasing - stop watching that green bar - will allow you to do more to help it increase.

:)
I don't "watch" it much at all, I just noticed that it hadn't changed, and my incoming links/ linked pages etc had ALL changed quite a bit...... just seemed odd that the PR hadn't changed. (Thought maybe I was missing something obvious.... wouldn't be the first time for me ! )
Guess I better go write some more articles :)
Thanks again !

You might try searching the Google directory where each directory listing has the option of viewing each site with a relative PR at the left.

Try to get links from higher PR sites (6+) and it is very probable, that you will be rewarded faster than expected :-)
