Not sure I'm in the right forum, but I couldn't find a "security" forum to post this issue.
Ok, I have had it! I have been receiving bogus emails (using the forms on my site) for too long. In the past 30 days, I've received 10 or so. I have researched a few of the emails, addresses, IP addresses, but to no avail, especially since the emails are bogus. I did discover one of the hackers (whose email showed up with his handle, instead) and I found his posts all over the hacker forums.
Ironically (maybe coincidence) one of my clients had their site defaced last month, the day after I received my first 3 bogus requests! (My link is in the footer of their site). I'm just wondering if there is anything I can do to find out who is doing this. I blocked the IP address from my site using an .htaccess file (from today's incident) but I doubt it's a static IP anyway. So, what can I do to find out more about how these hackers work, what their software can do? I mean, can software really fill out a form completely - even the text fields about their design requests? Can my site possibly be placed on some sort of hacker list that's getting passed around a forum somewhere?
This is driving me crazy and consuming too much of my time. Anyone have any insight to offer?
