Jakob Nielsen, one of the more respected usability and productivity researchers, called out an Apple-funded study proclaiming that bigger monitors increased productivity. They may very well do that, he said, but Pfieffer Consulting (whom Apple paid for the study) botched it up.
Another interesting tidbit (which is why this really relates to usability) is the idea that websites should be more standard so users can absorb the content without having to relearn how to navigate a site first.
Besides, you have less than a second to convince them to stay...you should make sure they understand you quickly.
