Unlike its much more heavily visited search competitor Google, Ask.com has no problem with its brand name being a dictionary word.

Google wants to be synonymous with search, not a synonym for search that anyone could use for any search engine. Ask doesn't seem terribly bothered about its etymology.

It is sad isn't it?

And how sad that they allowed the name Ask Jeeves to be taken from them by the estate of the late P.G. Wodehouse?

A bit of real research would have thrown up the information that Jeeves was a real butler at a house in Shropshire, Apley Castle, near Wellington, where it is rumoured, Wodehouse stayed. So they could have used that as a defence against the estate.

Maybe if Ask had Googled it it might have come up? :)
