Vincent Maher, a journalism lecturer at Rhodes University, has come out with an interesting list of guidelines that bloggers should be aware of if they want their blogs to achieve success.

They are all relevent and very specific, but I think that a good number of them speak to the underlying principle of transparency that is so paramount in the success or failure of a blog.

Check out the article (http://www.webpronews.com/topnews/topnews/wpn-60-20061019PerspectivesonBusinessBlogging.html), and the list, and tell me what you guys think about Maher's perspective.

Interesting article, but I have a couple of questions/comments.

... an effective blog should be a springboard for conversation as opposed to merely an information resource.

Agreed ... so why do many business bloggers do nothing but provide information on their products/services?

Maybe I'm off target, but I thought the original intent behind blogging was to offer personal viewpoints and to ...
create a community of readers who interact with each-other on your blog.

Or is it really about ...
Getting people excited about the products and services your business has to offer

Don't we get enough of that already on websites, radio, television, newspapers, etc., etc.???

Just wondering.

Excellent article, I really liked the whole concept of transparency.
A blog allow a business to add a human touch, in world of virtual, instant transactions, people want contact with other people (sales are a result of this contact).
This I believe is the strength of a blog.
Thanks again for posting this.
